What to wear under dress?

Charlotte, on January 16, 2020 at 2:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 20
I just made my alterations appointment with David's Bridal where I got my dress (yay!) and they told me to bring the shoes I will be wearing (check) and undergarments. I wasn't aware that I needed or might want anything particular for my dress. I do have a strapless bra I recently bought that I might bring but I would honestly rather go without. My dress is a very poofy, tons of layers of tulle ballgown, so I don't foresee needing something to make it bigger/fluffier. I just reaaaaally want to go braless but all these other websites seem to say I should absolutely wear some sort of bra or bustier. The dress has plenty of boning (omg hope I don't need it let out) so I don't need ANY extra help keeping me snatched. I guess I will bring my bra to the appointment but do you all think there is anything else I should be thinking of? What are you all planning on wearing under your dresses? Smiley smile

I think they just mean the bra and panties that you plan on wearing. If your dress is poofy with lots of skirt, you probably don't have to worry about what undies you'll be wearing.

The seamstress can sew cups into your dress. No need for a bra.

That's what I'm banking on! I think I'll ask for any recommendations when I'm there, too, just hoping to keep it as minimal as possible 😂

I have not thought about what I would be wearing under my dress. I have been told that I have to wear a bra (I was not planning on wearing a bra on my wedding day. I think I am going to wear leggings under my dress, at least Capri ones. At least for trying the dresses on. I will probably wear tights on my wedding day.

I always assumed I'd need a bra of some sort but after trying mine on multiple times, I'm hoping to get away with as little as possible, for comfort's sake! Leggings sounds great for when you're shopping around - if I really do need to wear some bottoms for the potentially itchy tulle, leggings sound better than tights for me...thanks for the idea! 🤔

They say that because some dresses require special bras or some people want to wear spanx so if you don’t need anything special don’t worry about it.

I am definitely NOT wearing a bra with my wedding dress. It seems so unnecessary! If you plan to just wear regular undies on your wedding day, then do that. A lot of ladies like to wear shapewear. I am going to purely to help prevent chaffing

I'd bring your strapless bra (if you don't bring stuff, they will likely try to sell you undergarments -- probably a longline bustier...); you can absolutely try your dress on without a bra and, if necessary, with a bra to see if it fits differently. It's your dress, so your choice. They want you to bring your undergarments/shoes, so you (and they!) have an idea of what alterations might be required. Again, DB's goal is going to get you to spend more money on your alterations with them, so they have a vested interest in you trying your dress on with the shoes you'd like to wear and realizing it's going to need to be hemmed! "Let us book an appointment for your alterations to fix that!"

I’m wearing a slip. They say the material may irritate the skin
