What to tell a guest when they cancel at the last minute?

Kristin, on June 3, 2019 at 11:41 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
I have a guest that is pretty sure she cannot make it. She is asking when I have to give my final count, which I have already done. The reason she is cancelling because of child care, but she’s had 6 months to plan for this and has told me over and over that it’s been taken care of. I’m pretty annoyed because she almost did this for my bridal shower as well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just tell her exactly that. You gave your final count already, and you understand, but you hope she can make it.

I agree with the people above, life happens, just tell her you've given final count already. 1 missing person shouldn't hurt too bad, at least she gave you notice instead of being just a no show

Thank you! I said exactly what Hannah said. I do understand, just annoying at this point when my wedding is 4 days away. Not going to stress it though. Thanks for the replies!!

This. We are getting married in 13 days and are finding out that some people can't make it. While I would love for them to be there, I understand that things happen. I'll see them over the holidays.

It's possible she did take care of it and her sitter fell through. Unfortunately, sometimes even with the best planning things fall apart, people get sick. Glad to hear you talked with her and sounds like things are good. Best of luck!

I agree with April. I also wouldn't stress out about it. One of those things you can't control and it's not worth the negativity. Life happens.
