What to put on registry?

Kassandra, on April 30, 2020 at 5:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I was curious if it was appropriate to put items to "upgrade" your house on your registry. For example, we want to build a deck and add a slab of cement in our yard for my FH to park his truck on. Is it inappropriate to add wood and cement mixture to the registry? We just bought a house and my grandparents gave us updated EVERYTHING. So we don't need to upgrade our dishware, blender, or anything of the sort.

I would probably put home improvement store gift cards on your registry, not bags of cement and 2x4’s.

You could always do a “home improvement” jar at your shower and let your guests know ahead of time about it and what it’ll be going towards😊

I would do gift cards to the particular store you would like to shop from instead of "15 4x4 of plywood and a bag of cement." LOL I mean you could....

You could do like a "honeyfund" but instead of listing honeymoon activities, list the home improvement things you'll be doing. So like it would allow someone to contribute money to "extra spot in our driveway for *FH*'s truck" rather than them actually buying the physical cement lol. I'd also send a photo of the finished product to whoever contributes Smiley smile

I would register for gift cards! Then you can go and specifically pick what you want. Plus how funny would it be for someone to show up with a bag of cement and put it on the gift table? 😂

Agree, I would totally buy a home improvement store gift card if a friend asked for one!

Also, maybe put some upgrades in for things you don;t think about a ton: nicer bath towels, a sturdier laundry hamper, new sheets, etc. Basically, things you can buy if you wanted, but would be awesome to get as gift so you don't have to buy yourself!

I would just do a home renovation fund, same concept as honeymoon fund and keynote people contribute whatever they’d like. Or simply have no registry, people will just gift cash and checks.

Ooh, I like that idea. I’ve created a cash fund for home improvements, though not sure if any will give towards it, but using that at the reception works, too. I honestly like the idea of giving towards something like this more than just giving towards a “honeymoon fund”. I definitely know vacation/fun is important too, but I’ve always had a hard time asking people to give towards wants rather than needs.
