What to Expect during covid lockdown

Lauren, on April 22, 2020 at 7:42 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
Hi ladies,
My fiancé and I are due to get married 9.26.20 and as of now are holding on hope that we can keep the date. Our venue has assured of that as of now they are keeping the fall weddings on schedule.
We are making large monthly payments (our venue provides several services including catering and flowers) still. We have been quite disappointed in the lack of work on the part of our venue in return. We understand they are busy helping to reschedule spring weddings but considering they are requiring us to still make payments I would like them to hold up their end of the schedule. Am I being unreasonable? Is anyone else dealing with a similar situation? Advice please? Thanks ladies!! Hope you are all staying safe.

What kind of work are you expecting from the venue at this time, and what have they dropped the ball on?

    Hey,
We were supposed to have been connected with our florist to discuss and choose our packages. We were supposed to have sample menus for both rehearsal and reception from their Chef a month ago. Our wedding coordinator was supposed to help us set up transportation for our guests (from hotel to venue). The catering, flowers and wedding planner are included in the price of booking the venue. We have put down a lot of money towards all of those already and continue to make large monthly payments. On top of that we would have expected them to touch base when the social distancing/quarantine started (we are in NYC) but have heard nothing.

I would understand them taking a little more time to answer and it sounds like you are giving them some time still. Have you reached out asking about the menu transportation and such? I totally get where you're coming from, you still need things to get planned!

I would keep things nice and polite with you. If you haven't asked about all the items in the last 2 weeks, I would email them and say that you understand things must have been difficult lately and busy for them. And then say you expected menus a month ago, and if they know when you will be getting them. Same for flowers and transportation, I'd ask for an expected date to your answers. They should be able to give you an approximate time to expect answers. Plus that way you can give them time and only reach out after the date they set goes by.

Keep in mind they are probably down to bare bones staff. With everyone on lockdown and no events, the Catering chef may be furloughed temporarily or just not working. I'd give them some slack. Also...do you have a contract with them that says you have to make these payments? If not, can you continue saving the money but hold off on sending a check?

Thanks for responding! Yes unfortunately our contract requires us to put down money each month. The venue pays its staff a living wage so I get the impression they would still be paying their staff with the money couples are required to pay throughout the year. We get the impression from them the staff is still working on plans but it could certainly be that they have laid people off and just aren’t mentioning it to us.

Thank's so much Christine! I appreciate you taking the time to respond. The catering chef is still working just behind it seems. We do unfortunately have a contract with them that requires the payments be made. We are just going to try and draft a nice email to touch base and go from there.
