I m so sorry to hear about your grandfather. That is such hard news. Something similar happened a few yrs ago to my best friend, but it was her dad that was diagnosed with cancer. She ended up getting legally married in her parents front yard, it was very small the best man's gf did photography as a hobby so she took all the photos she says those pictures are such a treasure to her. The wedding was just her parents, her siblings, his parents , me and anyone the dad wanted to see one more time (which ended up being like 5 of his close friends). The whole bridal party was not in attendance. She ordered all his favorite food from a local Italian restaurant and a small cake. I Her wedding dress was not in yet so her and I went to Macys and found a very sweet affordable short white dress. Her dad passed away not even a week later but the smile he had that day is something I will never forget. It was such an emotional day but for her she said it was the best decision she ever made. The big wedding was held a few months later including a ceremony and large reception. If you don't want to do a small earlier wedding and are local to him maybe you can just have a nice dinner with him and share a special dance have someone take some photos of the 2 of you and let him know how much he means to you. Having life's hardest moments and happiest moment intersect can be so hard but remember it is ok to feel both emotions at the same time. You do whatever is best for you and your family. It's so hard, sorry your family is going through this. If it was me I d definitely do a very small thing before the large wedding to ensure Grandpa will be some part of your day. Having those pictures and memories with him will be something you ll never forget. It doesn't have to be anything big or expensive but if he s up for it I definitely do something small with him and immediate family. And I would not worry about other people being upset, its not about them its about you ,your partner, and your grandpa. Do what will make you feel good. Best of luck to you!

Sorry you have to go through this Just be there for your family and cherish every min you have with your family. If you have a Minister see about doing a earlier ceremony and then your celebration next yr. That way your Grandfather can be there with you.
