Lorraine, on October 23, 2019 at 9:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 21
What did you guys do with your wedding dress?

My sister told me to save it in case i have a daughter but honestly I dont even know if the dress will be fashionable by that time.
I tried to sell it on Let go and nothing happened.

No I dont want to save the dress

I bought an evening gown that's white. And I don't really do anything with it other than it sitting in a garment bag aha and mine was so cheap because it was a cheap dress so a part of me has considered donating it to a prom dress drive

You could try consignment shops that sell wedding dresses! I plan on selling mine as well and will probably try Facebook marketplace first.

I kept my reception dress because it’s tea length. I still haven’t donated/sold my wedding dress but I should because I won’t have kids and I heard the fabrics these days don’t hold up to preservation anyway.

What about donating it to Brides Across America?

You could try to sell it and get something back. But you’re right, there’s not many women who grow up and want to wear their mothers wedding dress. And those that do either don’t fit into it or find the dress is damaged from either wear or being in storage. There are also charities who use wedding gowns to make special outfits for babies in the NICU who won’t make it home. One wedding gown can go a long way to give these parents something most of us take for granted.

    You can donate it.
I have a friend who has portrait of her daughter in it. He daughter is 3-4. The pictures turned out adorable! She may not want the dress when she’s grown, but she would probably love it at that age. This is assuming you want kids and even then have a daughter.

I've had success on Facebook Market Place (i've sold 3 so far)

My biggest tip is just don't expect to get anywhere near what you paid for the dress back. I know you probably paid a pretty penny for it but most people who are looking for a pre-owend dress have a realistic budget of $300 or below. I had a dress that i bought for $599 that i ended up selling for $50 and that's just how it works. You already bought the dress and worn it for your wedding and if you don't want to keep it let it go to another bride who needs one but cant afford to spend $900+ on a dress.

I plan to donate my dress after the wedding. If you google "wedding dress donation" there are several charitable organizations that accept wedding gowns.

I hear people take them places and get lingerie made from the fabric. If you can't sell it, you could get this done and then do a boudoir photo shoot and gift it to your husband on your anniversarySmiley smile

Try a resale shop. You may not get as much as you spent for it, but it will be something.

I plan to sell or donate it. I never quite understood the reason for saving something that you KNOW won’t be worn again. Also I feel like the idea of giving the dress to a daughter is terrible (and seems a little selfish). As much as brides enjoy the process of selecting their gown, why would they take that fun and experience away from their daughter?

However, if a bride wants to create something new from the dress (pillow, blanket, etc), then that’s a more practical use.

Check into donating it to a cancer foundation who throws weddings for women who are terminal and want to be married before they pass. Or someone else mentioned the NICU gowns, those are amazing too!

If you are interested in donating it you could try to see if Halos of St Croix could take it. They make funeral gowns out of wedding dresses for people who lost there children. They also help out in SEVERAL different ways as well (they payed for the majority of our daughters funeral last year)

I think me and FH will do anniversary photos in the same outfits we got married in (we will probably hire the same photographer and stay at the same hotel). I'd like to do this every year and have a progression of our relationship, plus it gives me an excuse to wear the gown every year for our anniversary Smiley laugh
