What to do with registries after shower

Erin Wood, on June 28, 2017 at 12:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

Just curious- Since almost everyone on here agrees that the registry is for the shower, what do you do with your registry after your shower is over.

I received a lot of cash/gift cards at my shower and have been getting a lot of gifts delivered to the house for wedding gifts.

Is it common to take the registry down after the shower?

I would wait until after the wedding. People may still want to get you something off of the registry for the wedding.

I'd leave it up until after the wedding because some folks might still want to purchase something from it. Then I believe most registries offer a discount if there is anything you wanted to purchase that you didn't receive. There's no rush to take it down.

Definitely leave it up. We're still (almost 90 days after our wedding) receiving gifts off of ours! Most places also give a completion discount so you can buy things that weren't purchased for you after the wedding

We've left ours up so that as we decide to go purchase more stuff from it, we can get the completion discount.

We also continued to receive wedding gifts after our wedding (both boxed gifts and cards with something generous inside).

We're leaving ours up, and surprisingly some guests who can't attend have sent actual gifts too. For BBB completion discount is the same as the reg coupons so we had bought the items we wanted with gc after the shower. With CB the completion discount totally helps, so we're saving those gc until after the wedding and purchasing then.

That's what I figured. I was just curious because some WW posters are all about the registry being for the shower only and I have seen posts that said they took it down after the shower because nobody buys gifts off the registry for the actual wedding. My guests must be backwards. HaHa!

Leave it up. I've seen people bring a gift to the shower and the wedding. Then as PP said you can use the completion discount. Hope you had a great shower!

I would leave it up just to use the completion discount for up to a year (I think that's what it is). Plus, FMIL likes to buy FH and I presents for Christmas still, and is always asking for ideas, so I'll just' point her in the direction of my registry.

I would leave it up until after the wedding. Some people may want to bring a boxed gift to the wedding or send one if they can't attend.

I agree with what everyone else said! I don't think there's any reason to take it down early.

Our places of registry told us to leave it up for one year after the wedding. I guess people will still send gifts for that long. I don't really know what to expect. With the exception of a few people, no one has asked me about my registry. Maybe once they get invites they will think to ask, especially since not everyone on the guest list will be at the shower.

We had 2 people get us gifts from the registry for the wedding so I would keep it up. We also had completion discounts so we're buying things off the registry now with the discount.

No way, leave it up!! You may be surprised at how many physical gifts you get for the wedding. Plus, you get a discount on anything that's still left on the registry after the wedding, that you may want to use some wedding money on.

Heck, I got married 2 years ago and mine is STILL up! I use it as a wishlist for birthdays/Christmas haha. I registered for china, and got several table settings and pieces at my shower, and so far my mom has been giving me a set of china each year for Christmas until I complete my set.

I just ordered a bunch of stuff today off our registry with the gift cards I got at my shower! I'm keeping it up at least for a while, mostly to remind me what I registered for and what I got. Plus, like everybody else says, completion discounts!

@Beutivant- Super close! July 8. 10 days to go!!

What is a completion discount? I am registered at Macy's, BBB and Crate & Barrel and non of those stores told me anything about discounts or added bonuses or anything. I feel like I got really crappy service.

Most stores offer a certain % off anything left on the registry that you purchase after the event date.

They will send you coupons, usually, for the discount. Maybe 2-3 weeks after your wedding.
