What to do with my dress after the getaway/before the honeymoon?

Erin, on August 16, 2018 at 1:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 10

When it comes to the getaway/bride + groom send-off, I always imagined myself getting into the limo/car at the end of the night in my wedding dress. But obviously this presents a problem, because we're going straight from the reception to the hotel, then the next day we leave from the hotel to the airport, and I don't want to lug my dress with me on my honeymoon!

Do I wear a second outfit for the exit? Do wear the dress into the car, but then change and drop off the dress with someone else? Do I have someone pick up the dress from the hotel?

How did people figure this out?

To be clear, I'd really rather wear my actual dress into the car instead of having to buy a new dress or wearing just normal day clothes.

I would just ask someone to pick up the dress from the hotel or drop it off to someone the next day

Have someone pick it up from you before you check out.

I'd just ask my mom or MOH to pick up the dress from the hotel. My MOH and parents are staying in the same hotel we are, so this wouldn't be an issue for me. I'm sure someone can come pick it up and take it from you while you honeymoon.

    Here's what we're doing!

We're actually leaving for our flights immediately after the wedding (morning wedding, afternoon reception, evening flight). My MOH is staying in my house for the weekend so she will bring our luggage with her in her car. She will also be bringing our change of clothes (I'm wearing a short, all lace white dress as my "exit" dress). Right before our exit she's going to bring us our change of clothes and then take my dress back to her car to return to my house. When returning the dress she will be giving our luggage to the driver of the limo so when we get in the limo we will be 100% ready to go!

We’re leaving for the airport directly after the wedding, but stopping by the hotel to change first. My sister volunteered to be on the clean-up crew, so she’ll be taking my dress home from the hotel afterwards.

Is there anyone you trust to help you transport your dress while you’re gone?

I would just have your maid of honor, of your mom pick up the dress for you.

I would suggest having a close friend / family member come pick it up from you or arrange a drop off. Someone you trust.

Why don't you take a cleaning/preservation box with you to the hotel and drop it off at the front desk on your way out? Take a pic of the person you give it to and be done, no one else needs to be concerned with it. I think the postage is paid for those things? I'd worry that one person or another would forget in the flurry and excitement.

We are going to be taking the auto train down to Florida then driving the rest of the way to the hotel. We wanted to have the car and not have to lug everything on the plane for the wedding and potential honeymoon/mini moon (haven't decided yet). If we vacation right after the wedding, I would pack everything we are not taking with us in the car that my mom and dad would take back up on the auto train, and then we can pick everything up from them when we get back! It's always an option to pack it in your car like that or have a family member take it with them!
