What to do with extra sparklers

SHINY OBJECTS, on July 2, 2017 at 6:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

Any ideas for what to do with extra sparklers? We ended up with a LOT of extras of the longest (36" I think), smokeless/wedding sparklers, and I hate for them to go to waste, but can't figure out what to do with them, especially since I can't ship them and it's way too many for my small 4th of July party. I'd really appreciate y'alls ideas!

Join the WW Bride-to-Bride Facebook group and pass them on to another couple! Or there may be a local wedding group in your area

I didn't know that was a thing, but probably just what I'm looking for. Thanks!

I'm curious as to where you got the sparklers from? Also what was your guest count to figure out how many you needed to order?

Nancy-That's actually why I still have them, but based on our plans and who we know, we could never use that many.

Lacie-We got ours from sparklersrus.com. I don't remember how we landed on them, but they were easy to work with and the stuff got here quickly. We also bought the buckets to hold the sparklers from them. A lot of the sights give advice on how many and what size to get. Basically for large weddings you need the longest so you have time to light everything and get in place without them burning out. We got sparklers for a little over 75% of our guest count and ended up using about 1/2 of what we ordered, but I wouldn't take my advice since clearly I was SO wrong. However, to be fair, our wedding was on a Sunday night and was pretty long, so a lot more people than we thought left earlier than we thought, and we did sparklers at the very end of the night. Also, we didn't buy until we got RSVPs back to know what our actual guest count was, but make sure you have enough time to ship since sparklers can only ship ground.

Still, totally worth it to me to get this:

Shiny-Thanks for that information! I will keep all of that in mind! btw that is an amazing picture!! I get that some people don't like send offs or even using sparklers for it in case it makes it seem "kiddish" but I really do love that picture because of your guests reactions. It looks like they had just as much fun with it!

And I just remembered I need to see if i have enough sparklers and find a pretty container to throw them in. thanks!

I'd keep them until a friend gets engaged and ask if she wants them. that's how I inherited mine, from another bride.

and 4th of july comes once every year... you might be set for the next 5 years!

Gorgeous photo! I'd check local FB wedding groups/Craigslist/Nextdoor and see if someone close to you wants to buy them off of you, if they're local you can do a hand off rather than try to ship them

Lacie-It was a lot of fun, for us and our guests! I agree sendoffs aren't for everyone, but I LOVE fireworks (and anything sparkly, hence my user name!), and since a massive firework show was *slightly* out of our budget, this was a good alternative Smiley smile. I was really worried about how it would turn out in pics because I've seen so many disappointing sparkler pics, but unbeknownst to me, my photographer did this and I am so glad. We did another long exposure at the end where we were supposed to be making a heart around ourselves with sparklers but it 100% failed!

OG Matt-Unfortunately I live in a small neighborhood that is mostly older people, very few kids. Maybe one day I'll be cool...

Mel-We got the $20-ish galvanized steel container from the same place as our sparklers. I was initially thinking about decorating it or getting something prettier, but ultimately I'm glad I didn't. No one really would have seen it, my DOC just handed them all out anyway, and where it was displayed they were on the ground, so the containers weren't super visible. Basically I would recommend not spending too much time or money on it. And I would be waiting a long time to pass them down, but we'll definitely be set for a looooong time!

WWJo-thanks! Yes, I'm looking into some of those groups, great advice!

The pics turned out great! I'm doing sparklers with a Sunday wedding as well. I was hoping to pick some up for cheap on the 5th, but will check out sparklersrus.com if I can't find anything local. Thanks for the tip!

You said you got the 36" sparklers, did you feel like they were the right size? Or do you think the 20" would have worked as well?

LibraryBelle-That's a good idea to look for discounts Wednesday, but likely those will be the novelty/firework type. You really need the metal smokeless ones, usually called "wedding sparklers". The other kind can be really dangerous for this use. Length really depends on the size of your wedding, and ours was big. This is what I was going off of: http://www.sparklersrus.com/Sparklers-Size_ep_74.html

If I had known there would be less than 50% of my guest count at the exit, I probably would have gotten 20", but I was planning for closer to 75%. I think we had around 75 people for the exit.

    Nancy-Hahaha I will think about that...Smiley smile

P.S. if any of y'all looking for sparklers are in the Dallas area, let's talk...

Soozie-we had 250 people, bought 200 to round up from 75%. There's a lot of variables-how likely do you think X quantity of people are to stay until the end? What size sparklers are you getting? Are you ok with not everyone having a sparkler? I'm a bit neurotic, and wanted to be covered. Personally I would be really nervous with 40 for a guest count of 120, but if you don't care as much, go with 40. Also, I wouldn't necessarily listen to me since obviously I did it wrong. Good luck!

I feel like I'll be in this boat in about a month. we're breaking into a pack tomorrow but that'll leave us with 190 - more than enough.

FYI for anyone looking I got 204 of the 20" off I love sparklers.com for ~$80
