What to do with dj during dinner?

kalise, on March 21, 2018 at 7:20 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 11
Hopefully this isn’t an odd question.

so so we have ceremony 4:30-5, cocktails from 5-6 while we finish photos, dinner at 6. dj will be set up by 5 for music during cocktails/apps.

so so what does he do during dinner? we won’t need music. we are having dinner inside, and dj will be set up right outside on the covered deck/dance floor.

i mean obivously he can eat, but just curious what typically happens during dinner in case there’s something i‘m not thinking about.

Usually DJs will play music during dinner. It won’t be dancing songs, just light background music. Similar to cocktail hour. They’ll also coordinate speeches and that sort of thing, since that’s often done during dinner. You’ll also feed him a vendor meal during that time.

Actually the DJ should be playing music during dinner.... Soft, quoter background music. Leave it up to your DJ what he does during dinner. He has a routine and he'll know what to do. He might take a quick break to eat.

Since I can’t edit my previous post, if he’s set up outside, I would see if there’s a way to get music inside. It would seem odd to me if there was no music at all. Our band will play outside for cocktail hour then will shift everything inside for the reception. Your DJ is probably able to do something similar.

The venue has a separate sound system that is inside only, so i’ll see if we can get that set up for him.

    i guess i was overthinking a bit!

Our DJ will be playing music when people are eating. You should def have music playing. It will give a nice ambiance while folks are enjoying their food.

I always assumed that the DJ/band would eat when the guests ate and just have pre-arranged music playing during that time.

Our DJ played music throughout dinner. It was quiet low-key music and as people started to finish he moved into more of our dance style music.

Check with your DJ too. He might be equipped with enough stuff to do two separate locations in the same property if he knows that your plan is to have the ceremony and reception in different locations. My DJ is equipped to do both without requiring anything extra of me.

We’re not using him for ceremony, just reception/dancing. i think we should be able to use the venue’s inside sound system for whatever he wants to do during dinner.

He will likely have soft music playing for the ambience
