What to do about lipstick

Emma, on September 16, 2020 at 10:40 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 23
I’ve hired a makeup artist for my wedding day. But I just started thinking, shouldn’t I bring my own lipstick so that I can touch it up throughout the night? I’m afraid with all the kissing, talking, eating, and drinking throughout the night, it will fade super fast!

Most MUAs will give you a little touch up kit with powder and a lipstick sample.

Talk to your MUA ahead of time. once a lipstick or brush touches your lips, it cannot ever be used for anyone else. So most give you a compact with mirror, pots and disposable brushes for lipstick and blush, or 2 sample lipsticks good for 2 full applications each, plus blush and powder if used. You usually need your own mascara wand for touch-ups.

I’ve not experienced a MUA giving me a sample to take with me. When I went for my trial and we settled on a color, I made note of the name and brand and went to find a tube at Sephora. But, I didn’t end up touching it up ever anyway. My make up still looked good at the end of the night !

I would purchase your own lipstick and have her use that - better for Covid too...

I’m not worried about covid with her. She uses 1 time use disposable brushes for lips and eyes. Everything else is cleared in between clients

I’ve never heard it either! I’m not really worried about anything else except my lipstick. I just don’t even know what color to use. My trial I did for my engagement photos so we used a much brighter pink then what I want for the wedding

Then you do need to be equipped. 4-5 hours after you start, especially if hot, definitely emotional, you are gong to want to wash most of your face, and do a light, minimal late evening soft look for yourself.

Maybe it's regional. Of course my MUA charged to stay and do touch ups herself, but every MUA that I spoke with provided a free touch up kit for me to use on myself. You could just ask her what product she uses at your trial and purchase your own.

I brought my own lipstick and asked my HMUA to use it. That way I had it all night long for touch ups, and was not using lipstick she has used on countless other people.

Yea no. I’m used to wearing makeup 😂 I won’t need to wash it off. If anything I’ll just need to bring blotting paper and lipstick to touch up

I’m thinking of getting like 2 from ulta or Sephora so she can help me pick with one 😂 then I can touch up when needed without stressing

That is what I would do. I went to Sephora and they helped me pick out a color that was long lasting! It was nice to have it whenever I needed it.

Well it's also a solution to the problem you were asking about.

She used a Mac lipstick when we did my trial. I think I might go to ulta for one if those

Oh I know. I’m definitely leaning towards just getting a Mac lipstick since that’s the brand she used during my trial

Most makeup artists use high end makeup plus primer and setting spray so it's not going anywhere. They also may include a touch up kit but you likely won't need it

First talk to your MUA to see if she provides it, if not that’s a good idea!
