What to call a 30 year old ring bearer??

Amber, on August 23, 2018 at 10:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 10
My fiancé and I are apparently TERRIBLE at picking out people to be in our wedding. A month ago the best man stepped down from his duties so we replaced him. Now his son, who was the ring bearer, is no longer being the ring bearer. So I was just over it, and decided we wouldn’t have a ring bearer since we’re a little over a month out at this point. One of my oldest friend offered to carry the rings down and hand them up during the ceremony, so that’s the current plan. But I’m wondering what to call him on the wedding party sign? Ring bearer seems like a child title to me??

You don't have to have a ring bearer in title. He can just hold the rings and give them to you/your officiant when it's time for the exchange. But, I don't see anything wrong with calling him a ring bearer if you want to.

We did have a ring bearer, but he didn't really carry anything - the best man had our rings in his pocket.

I've actually never been to a wedding with a ring bearer, and I've been to a LOT of weddings! It's always just been the groom, best man, or other member of the wedding party who held onto the rings until they were needed.

I don't think there is anything wrong with calling him a ring bearer.

You don't need to have a ring bearer. Having a 30-year-old do it is going to look silly. Just have the best man hold the rings in his pocket. This is what's normally done anyway because no one wants the 4-year-old ring bearer holding the wedding rings.

The Best man can do it, but if you want a separate person, the title ring bearer means, person who carries rings. Not age or gender specific.

I understand the best man can hold the rings. I also want to include this person in my wedding. So he will hang on to the rings until they’re needed during the ceremony, at which point he will hand them up. I wanted to acknowledge him in some way. I don’t care if it looks silly or dumb to have a grown man walk down the aisle and then sit in the front row, it’s my wedding. I was just looking for other creative titles for him. I’ll probably just leave it at ring bearer. Thanks everyone.

I personally think he should be called ring security. I don't think it will look silly and again who cares if someone thinks it does. It is your day and if this is how you wish for it to be then please do so.
