What to bring to Pre-Cana class

Pamela, on May 10, 2016 at 10:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

For those who have already or will be getting married in a Catholic Church and have taken the pre-cana marriage class, do you need bring anything to class that day like our birth certificates or anything? Our class is this Saturday from 9-4 and just want to be prepared. FH thinks it's weird we haven't gotten a follow up email or anything in regards to the class and is starting to worry (he's a worry wart lol)

I know our church wanted like our communion and confirmation certificates on file, we are going soon but I know that was a requirement

Yep, if you didn't have all your sacraments performed at that church (baptism, first communion, confirmation), you bring your forms with you. If you don't have them, you can call the churches you performed those sacraments at and they will send you copies.

I believe they normally want only the baptism certificate to be the original.

Oh, and another thing to bring with you..and open heart and mind! It's going to be nerve wracking at first, but pre Cana was great! They are going to chat about finances, future family, likes/dislikes. Pretty much anything you and your FH may have talked about!

Yea our church wants both of those as well. I wasn't sure if we needed those before the wedding or if they're required to bring to the class as well.

@christina, they told you that you had to bring them to class?

Class is Saturday. I shoulda been on top of this earlier. Oh ok whew! I was scared we would need our birth certificates or some legal docs or something. FH has been asking me every other day for the past 2 weeks (I have a tendancy to procrastinate and/or forget things lol)

We didn't need to bring anything. We live in a bigger city and the diocese puts on Pre-Cana but the church handles all the paperwork. I would just call and double check.

We did the whole weekend thing (engaged encounter) and we didn't need those docs. I misread your question. The church just wanted it to be filed by the 6 month mark!

Our diocese wouldn't accept our baptismal record until six months of ceremony. Has to be original and dated.

You need the baptismal certificate for your meeting with the Deacon or priest who is marrying you, not for a PreCana class. Your Deacon or priest takes care of all the paperwork, the PreCana is the marriage preparation. You'll talk about all kinds of things that will help you in your marriage and most people are pleasantly surprised by how much they like it! Have fun Saturday!
