What size wedding dress (when between sizes)?

So I think I know what dress I want to order. I have gone twice to try it on, and the first consultant said to order the same size as the sample, after we played with it for a bit and discussed. So I think I know what dress I want to order. I have gone twice to try it on, and the first consultant said to order the same size as the sample, after we played with it for a bit and discussed.

However, the second consultant said to order one size up (and acted shocked that I would be able to even fit the sample size before I tried it on - actually she was pretty awful).

I think the conventional wisdom is to order the bigger size, but this is a dress I would wear without a bra, so I need it to be tight enough to hold the girls in. The sample size, however, *is* a bit tight. Dropping 5-10 pounds would make it fit perfectly, and I intend to do so... but just in case I don't...?

Please share your stories on what size you ordered! Smiley smile

Yeah, I agree with the above and suggest ordering a size up. You also wanna make sure you can sit comfortably in your dress (the sample was too big in the waist for me but tight in the hips for me so I just had them take the bigger size in.) So much easier to have the dress fit to you rather than the other way around. Smiley smile

Go size up. It can be easily brought in if needed.

I had all intentions of losing a few pounds before picking my dress up....yeah that didn't happen. Very thankful I went a size up.

Also in between sizes. Haven't gone dress shopping yet, but for my sisters wedding the consultant told me to order a size up.

Depends on how far away your wedding is. Most dresses can be taken out and taken in so I would ask about the cost of both. If the dress can be taken out and you are adamant on losing those 5-10 pounds and have the time before your wedding to do so then I would go with the smaller size that way you could have the possibility of no alterations but if you go a size up and then lose that way you'll have even more costly alterations. You could also look at putting a corset in the back. I don't know if that dress will permit but that's a possible option and personally I always love corset backs lol good luck Smiley smile

The reason that second lady was surprised is because that size normally fits a smaller measurement than a sample dress does. If it was a sample dress and still snug, I'd def order the bigger size. No one will know the number size anyway when your wearing it.

Order the bigger size. Samples get stretched out.

Go up a size. More difficult to take it out and sometimes they cant.

I would go the next size up. A dress can almost always be taken in a little bit.

1- the sample is very likely stretched out from several people having tried it on- it won't fit the same as fresh off the rack.

2- measure YOUR body, don't go by the sample size. Take your measurements and order accordingly by the designers standard.

3- when between sizes, order UP. It's easier to take in a dress than to let it out

I think you really need to get your measurements, and order based on the designers size charts. Going strictly by the sample size could prove to be very risky. Those get stretched out, and worn over and over again, and it is not uncommon for them to be 2-3 sizes larger than what they are labeled as. And if you get your measurements are you are between sizes still always order up!

Don't order based on how the sample dress fit. It's probably stretched out a little and not a proper fit. Have them measure you and look at the size chart for that dress. Order based on that. If you're between sizes I would order the bigger one. It's usually easier to take it in than to let it out.
