What Should They Wear

Jenna, on May 9, 2020 at 5:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

With all of this free time right now, my fiance and I have been discussing what we want our bridal party to wear. Our colors are black and purple. I don't really like guys in purple so we agreed the groomsmen would wear black tuxes with a white shirt and black tie and vest and the bridesmaids would wear purple dresses. I am having a bride's man and he is having a groomswoman and we can't decide what they should wear. My fiance is leaning towards the groomswoman wearing the same dress as the bridesmaids, but I think she should wear a black dress to match the groomsmen. My fiance's reply then was "Does that mean your friend (the bride's man) is going to wear a purple tux to match the bridesmaids?" To which I said no. I thought he could wear the same tux as the groomsmen, but a different color vest and tie. My fiance is also against the black dress because that seems like something she would be going to a funeral (his words not mine). Any suggestions or if you had a bride's man or groomswoman or have been to a wedding that has had one what did they wear? We haven't officially asked them to be in our wedding because we wanted to ask in person, but they pretty much know that we want them to be in our wedding.

I've seen both iterations that you two have offered and they both look nice. Also, black dresses aren't really considered funeral-attire as much anymore. There are some gorgeous black dresses that look very chic and elegant. There's funeral black and then there's wedding black.

I think black looks very classy and I love the wedding party in black. But I prefer for the groomswoman to match the bridesmaids. You’re joining families and friends so I feel like it’s nice to have the ladies and the men match regardless of what side they’re on.

I agree with you; a black dress in the same style for her and a purple vest or tie for him would be the way to go.

Personally, I could see the groom's woman wearing purple (maybe same dress as the bridesmaides, maybe not) with black accents to match the groomsmen.

If you are having a church wedding I might lean away from the black dress. If you are having a more non-traditional wedding, I would see it as less of an issue.
At the end of the day, it is up to both you and your fiancee, not anyone else.
