What should THEY wear to the rehearsal & dinner?

Sarah, on April 7, 2016 at 4:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hi all, I have some family and friends asking me what they should wear to the rehearsal dinner. I'll be wearing (hoping to find) a summery short white dress. I don't really care what they wear, but would it be good to have them all in the same type? What did you do? Just like some ideas / discussion.

At previous weddings I was in I wore a casual dress or black pants and a nice top. The guys work dress pants and a polo or something along those lines. I guess it depends on where the rehearsal dinner is also, if someone was having a backyard pizza party vs a dinner at the country club I would probably base the decision off of that.

I would say this depends how formal your rehearsal dinner is. Mine was at a really nice Italian restaurant so I told everyone to dress like they where going out to a nice dinner. Which ended with ladies in summer (semi formal but not as formal as wedding) dresses and the guys in dress shirts and pants and some ties but no jackets. Beside that I let everyone decide on there own what to wear based on the formality.

I don't think there needs to be a particular dress code for the RD, unless your venue dictates it. For us, we're getting married at the beach so I'm sure the rehearsal will be really casual (think shorts, polos, sandals/flip flops). I think people will figure out what to wear based on the RD restaurant/location.

Just tell them what the venue is and/or what you're wearing.

Like @Samantha said, depends on how formal your rehearsal dinner is! If people are asking you then it helps to give more information, like "oh I'll be wearing a sundress", or "no ties or jackets needed for guys!"

Most people will dress based on location. If people are asking (and this is what you're thinking) I would say business casual is an easy answer. Every RD I've been to, I've worn a dress or dress pants and a blouse and FH usually wears black pants and a button down or khakis and a polo depending on venue.

We just said "casual attire" on our RD invites. So I guess that leaves it up to their interpretation of "casual." We are having dinner in a restaurant, but I am sure that their patrons come in all types of dress so no requirement to wear a dress/suit/tie or anything.

I've worn a dress at others RDs. We are having BBQ, so men can wear jeans and everyone is welcome to wear their boots.

Our friends and family came casual. Even us. We wore jeans and flip flops but we had ours at a pizza place. We wanted something low key and casual to relax the day before we had to get all dressed up and serious.

It depends on what the venue is for your rehearsal dinner.

Whatever they're comfortable in, that isn't yoga pants Smiley smile

I only suggested they wear their wedding shoes to help them break them in, who's going to wear high heels with jeans? Of course its possible, but luckily all of our wedding party were pretty excited for us and dressed for "the occasion" without me dictating them what to wear.

Whatever they want (that's appropriate for the venue). It's nice of them to ask, but it really doesn't matter. I think coordinated outfits for anything other than the actual wedding itself is overkill.

We will be doing dress casual as we are having dinner in a restaurant as well afterwards.

All the RD I've been to, I've worn a dress or sundress. I base the formality off of where the RD is being held.

As pp have said it depends on what the feel is. Mine will be very casual laid back after decorating the reception place. Lol I may or may not be dirty by time we eat. After the dinner I am going back to finish up for the reception lol.

Probably should've included that it is upstairs at our venue which is a community center ballroom. The wedding is semi-formal. We are having a meal catered, though not sure if FMIL is having plated or buffet style. Depending on the room availability we may be decorating that day before or after.

Our rehearsal dinner is at a brewery. Very casual, I noted on the invites (which are electronic) Join us for a casual dinner immediately following at Optimism Brewery. Tells them.
