What should our Groomswomen carry?

Amanda, on May 26, 2016 at 1:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I am having 4 bridesmaids on my side, and my FH has decided to have a Best Man, Groomsman, and 2 Groomswomen! I love the idea and we have already chosen formal gowns. All the ladies will be in the same dress, the groomswomen will just be in a different color. My florist asked me yesterday what the groomswomen would have, since it won't be a boutineer. I am not opposed to them having a bouquet similar to the bridesmaids, but my planner also suggested corsages or a pomander. Corsages tend to just remind me of prom and my flower girl is carrying a pomander. Would it look too childish to have the groomswomen also have a (larger) one? Does anyone else have groomswomen and can give some advice?

I think a corsage would be a great for a groomswoman. That way they are still different from your bridesmaids!

I think they could carry bouquets just like the women on your side. But to match the colors of the boutonnieres on the groomsman possibly? They could do corsages too but I agree they tend to make me think of prom.

Not a corsage. They are just as important as the bridesmaids. A bouquet, either matching or as mimitrue suggested, in coordinating colors/flowers as the BMs bouquets.

I like the idea of the smaller bouquet in the appropriate colors.

I'm going with boutineer to match the groomsmen. They aren't bridesmaids so I don't think they needs bouquets or to carry anything down the aisle.

Either a pin on corsage that compliments the boutonniere or a bouquet.

I think, if the dress allows, let them wear a boutonniere!

My friend had a groomswoman. She wore a navy dress while the bridesmaids wore the same dress in coral. The men were in navy and tan. She had a bouquet. I thought it looked really good together.

Boutineers will not work because the dresses are strapless... I know the girls will do a lot for us, but probably not that! lol

We did a bouquet for our groomswoman, same as the BMs except wrapped in different colored ribbon.

Do you think it would look good if they all had the same flower in their hair? It could coordinate with the groomsmen, maybe?

If we had groomswomen I would go with a bouquet. Their dresses and where they're standing already set them apart from the BMs, so I would keep the flowers the same.

What if each of them carried a ring in a small box (instead of the BM having them in his pocket)?

I'd pick their brains a little bit. Some people prefer having something in their hands while standing in front of people, so a bouquet would work.

As PP said, they'll be in a different color dress and standing on the groom's side, so I'd see no problem having them carry flowers.

How about a lantern or basket?

I wouldn't have them do a pomander, it will make them look odd. Either bouquets in slightly different colors or nothing, whichever they are more comfortable with.

We have done bouquets for them as well - but we have the handles of the bouquets match the tuxes.
