What Should Father of the Bride Wear?

He should wear whatever he feels comfortable wearing. A tux might be out of place is the groom/groomsmen are not wearing tuxes, but it is not anyone's place to tell him what to wear.

Our dads asked the same thing. My answer was "Anything you feel comfortable wearing. The groomsmen will be in grey suits."

Knowing my dad he'll show up in a Hawaiian tommy Bahamas shirt and a pair of slacks....

@Mary, thank you! My dad is very much a blue collar type of guy and I know he doesn't want to be out of place and that is why he is asking. I just never paid very much attention to what everyone is wearing at weddings. Which is why I don't care what he wears but I know he will.

@whips, I'm glad my Dad isn't the only one who will attempt to wear Hawaiian shirts as "formal" lol

OP, my dad will either wear a tux or suit, whichever he prefers

@Mary well my dad isn't a photo prop, so it doesn't really matter how he looks, as long as he looks like himself.

@Boudreautobe, I do not understand why you are being rude. He asked for suggestions to wear because he does not want to be under or over dressed. Yes, he is going to be in pictures and he doesn't want to stand out by being the only one in a tux, or without a jacket. He likes to blend in.

@Sdot I'm not trying to be rude. If he wants to blend in, tell him what everyone else is wearing and let him decide.

I'm a little salty about this topic because my FSIL is trying to control what my FILs wear to her wedding, and it made my FMIL feel really bad about herself. I don't want to see any other parents/FILS go through that.

Yeah my cousin did that to the MOB and MOG and my aunt still talks about how much she hated wearing black to her sons wedding. I don't care what any of them wear to be honest that is why I am asking because I never thought about it before he did.

Again @OP I'm sorry if I came off as rude. I just hope I can put the things/people that actually matter back into perspective in wedding planning

My dad wore a dark blue suit. the men in our WP were in grey, but for the amount of time they were all standing together it didn't really matter to me what colour he was in. he was always going to wear a suit though, because he loves to get snazzed up. he also wore an adorable bowtie.

My father asked if he could wear his leather riding vest. I told him I didn't care at all. The groomsmen will not be wearing leather, but black goes with everything, right?

I agree with the suit if the GM will be wearing suits. If he insists on a color, maybe something that will go with the blue? Gray for example? I think about how the photos will look later on, and would think something to complement would be nice. But I also 100% agree with whatever he's comfortable with.

We ordered a suit off amazon for my dad. it turned out great!

My dad and FIL wore the same tuxes as my DH and GM. Although their color accents differed. DH - coral vest and coral bow tie, GM coral vest, coral regular tie, Dad/FIL navy vest and ties (suits were navy and wedding colors were navy coral and gold).

ETA they all were rented from men's warehouse

We told our dads suits, and one of them said he would rent with the grooms party. I advised that to the other dads so they were aware, but made sure all 3 knew nothing was required. all 3 will rent with the groomsmen but it was 100% their choice

My wedding is going to be extremely formal (I don't care what my guest wear though / just bp and immediate family) but my groom will be wearing dark grey and so will the groomsmen, however I want the dads to wear black. My colors and black, white, and magenta...

I think grey would look really nice for your dad though if your guys are wearing navy
