What kind of veil suits this lace dress?

Serena, on December 9, 2020 at 9:34 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I've attached a photo of my unfinished wedding dress as it is right now. Once complete there will be cream lining covering all the current see through parts of the dress. Transparent sleeves are also going to be attached, and they'll have lace patterns all over them. The back of the dress has lace at the top half but is fully plain at the bottom.. so that transparent veil material you can see coming out at the edges of the skirt drapes all around the back of the bottom half too too.

I'm not sure what sort of veil I should go for? Perhaps plain so it doesn't detract from the dress which already has a lot of lace on, or maybe a veil with some lace detail on?

I think a drop veil with a lace applique would be lovely and you can do cathedral or finger tip if you prefer shorter.

Have you considered going without a veil? A veil may take away from the detail of your gown.

Lace is always so hard to match. You could ask whoever is making the dress to make you a matching veil as well.

I'd vote for a plain tulle veil!! I think they're always classic and elegant, and your veil won't distract from the delicate lace detailing on your dress! 😍

I also think finger-tip length veils are really universally flattering! Have you tried on different length veils with your dress?

Cathedral and/finger tip as the first post suggested. No lace in your veil. Your dress is Beautiful by the way

My dress was all lace which made it hard to fomd a veil to match, but I ended up goimg with a plain tulle veil with pearls all over! It matched my jewelry and complimented my dress without taking attention away! Your dress is gorgeous and very detailed, so i wouldnt have anything too busy for your veil.

Hmm.. I may go without too. That's what I was worried about, the veil potentially taking attention away from the dress which is already so detailed. I might go for a simple plain 1 tier tulle raw edge veil instead so as simple as it gets, although I do love a good cathedral veil!

I would but unfortunately this particular dress was bought from an independent local boutique that only specialises in dresses. They don't make the dresses either as when I asked, they told me they import them from other countries. That's why I'm leaning towards a simple plain tulle veil now as I won't be able to match the lace anyway if I went for a lace applique veil.

Oh you've pushed me over the edge to go for a plain tulle veil haha. I do love a bit of lace, but it won't match my dress and you just can't go wrong with a plain veil! I haven't tried on ANY veils yet but I need to, we just don't have any stores that sell veils around here so I may have to venture out a bit. Plus due to covid, a lot of places are a bit wary about allowing you to try on things nowadays. I really love how beautiful chapel and cathedral veils look too, but I'll probably have to carry the trail with one arm so nobody steps on it!

Thank you so much, I can't wait to see the finished product once all the lining, sleeves and pearl buttons are added! Right, cathedral and finger tip veils are being suggested a lot so I'm going to hunt for plain veils of either a cathedral or fingertip length now Smiley smile

Thanks for your response and wow your dress and your veil are both SO beautiful. That veil is simply gorgeous.. you didn't have to worry about picking a veil with a similar lace to your dress, nor be concerned about it taking attention away from the dress either!

Trying things on is definitely tougher right now!! Thankfully you've still got plenty of time to purchase a veil!

If you've got a top contender (with a good return policy 😉) you could always bring the veil or veil options to your alterations appointments and try it all on together there since you'll be in your dress!
