What kind of cups are needed to stock a bar at the reception?

GoodMOB, on March 9, 2018 at 2:29 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12

Daughter/sil's venue will have a hired bartender, but dd/sil provide all the alcohol and supplies. I said I would work on the cups. Not being much of a drinker, what type of cups should I get?

They plan to have beer, wine, maybe a signature drink & /or champagne, & non-alcoholic drinks.

It's really important to dd that the cups are recyclable and get recycled.

I want them to look decent.

What sizes/shapes are good?

We are getting our cups from webstaurantstore.com! They have a whole selection. We are having beer and wine only so we will most likely do stemless wine glasses and then regular glasses for the beer. Our caterer provides the cups for the water/tea that they bring. We are going with plastic bar cups so they can be disposed of at the end.

I would get traditional beer glasses, white and red wine glasses, champagne glasses. They need to determine if they’re having a signature drink. Different drinks go in different glasses.

Agree with this. I recommend looking at renting glassware from a local events rental company if your venue doesn't provide this. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to rent glasses than buying disposable cups, and it looks better.

Agree, we rented glasses, that seems the most "green" to me if that is a concern. The rental company should be able to help you with #s and types.

My daughter would LOVE to rent glassware, but the trick is: The venue has no place for washing dishes. The caterer is packing out all the dishes they bring (and the real water goblets).

So, what would happen to all this glassware at 11:30 p.m. when the reception ends?

We would like to make this work, just don't know how to do it.

I would consult the coordinator or whoever you hired to clean up the other parts of the event.

Or speak to a rental company about when they must be returned and in what condition. They are the first person to consult generally. We specifically went with a venue so we didn't have to deal with this but some places may be willing to wash them upon return for an additional fee.

I would ask the rental company. Mine actually did not want me to wash my glassware. They included that in the price. I don’t blame them how can they other wise ensure they are washed properly

You guys are so right! I didn't realize this is actually possible, but I think so. We would just need to make sure the glasses are emptied, but not washed. The rental company does drop-off and pickup. Set up if needed (bride/groom need to clarify that with the bartender they've hired).

Correct. The rental company usually doesn't want you washing any of the dishes. You just scrape off any excess food if you rented plates and stack them back in the crates. As for glasses, you just put them back in the crates when you're done.

Does your daughter really have no opinion on you just hiring random vendors?

Is she renting dishes and glassware for the meal? Whose providing that?

Have you talked to the venue to see what other people have done?

ave you even googled to see what options are available?

The catering company is providing china and glassware for the meal. However, they clean up and leave well before the end of the reception, and don't do the bar service.

The venue allows quite a bit of choice, as long as we have a hired bartender and security guard while alcohol is being served.

And yes, I have just been googling to see options for rental companies, and that's when I figured out that we wouldn't have to wash the glassware, so it might really be feasible with the reception venue.

My daughter does have an opinion: She prefers to have real glass if possible, mostly for the environmental reasons. She is very happy to defer the exact decision to me. My daughter is busy with making her career, and while she and her fiance have made all the big decisions on the wedding, the ins and outs of little details are not something she really has time, or interest in. She'd rather just have it taken care of.

Wow, this is not the first time that I have encountered people wondering at my daughter allowing me to help her with her wedding. I'm not sure why this is a strange/unusual thing. Seems some people hire a wedding coordinator, and I'm not sure how that is less weird to trust decisions to a hired stranger than having your own mother help you with your wedding.
