What kind of alcohol to serve?

Tris, on June 17, 2019 at 2:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
We will have a self serve bar. I'm thinking:

A red wine and a white wine
A craft beer and a light beer
Tequila and vodka

Any drinkers wanna chime in with what suggestions about what a crowd will like?

Chardonnay, pinot grigio, or my favorite Sauvignon blanc? Cabernet, melot, or my favorite pino noir?

Any suggestions for a good light beer and a good craft beer that are popular?

Is tequila and vodka good enough or do I need whiskey or rum too?

Thanks!

Good luck! I stressed about what kind/how much alcohol to buy for our wedding. We ended up getting:

    Wine: Moscato & Rodeo Red

Beer: Bud light & Miller light (I know that seems redundant but that's what all of our guests drink!)

Liquor: vodka, crown royal, captain morgan & jack daniels

Mixers: coke, diet coke, 7up, cranberry, tonic water, club soda, OJ & pineapple juice

I know it sounds like overkill but I went through our guest list and wrote down what each person drank (if I knew) and then tallied everything up and got the most popular items & mixers.

I would add a rum. It's much more popular in mixed drinks than tequila would be! We had rum, vodka, gin and whiskey at our wedding, along with a mango rum and a premixed bottle of White Russian that my mother likes. We actually skipped the tequila and could've skipped the gin too. For beer we had Miller Lite and Yuengling, nothing exciting but would appeal to more people. I think for out wines with had a Pino Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and a Moscato. I'm not a wine drinker so I can't be 100% sure on those, but we def had a Moscato because my sister loves it and it's very popular right now.

I would do a Chardonnay for white (pretty crowd friendly) and a Cab for red (make sure to taste them, some might be too dry or bittter). I would do an ale or light beer, since it is summer. I wouldn't do an IPA since they are usually dark and bitter, not everyone's favorite. Vodka and Tequila will be the top 2 for hard liquors with Rum being a close 3rd. And all of the mixers above are pretty standard. (Rum&Coke, Vodka Tonic, Vodka Cranberry, Tequila & &up makes a sorta margarita)

I think bud light or miller light would be sufficient as far as light beers. Most of our crowd prefers local craft beers, so maybe you could do something specific to your area?

If you’re going to offer limited liquor, I would offer a clear and a dark.

I’m not much of a wine drinker and would prefer an $8 bottle of moscato over anything else so I’m really no help there.

I'd have a 3rd beer option, maybe another craft beer or a dark beer or a flavored beer/cider. I'd also probably offer whiskey. Coors or Bud Light are safe options for light beers everyone likes.

My FH and I don't drink wine so we will have margaritas because that is my favorite and whiskey because that is his and also we are doing beer for those who can't handle liquor.

I love Prime! I just ordered some pretty teal rimmed cocktail glasses and beverage napkins. I even ordered an ice scoop and a small pack of shot glasses!

Tequila is pretty popular with our crowd. Vodka too. I'd be happy to offer rum and whiskey just in case someone wants that. I didn't think of mixers too, oh man this is gonna be expensive and I think I'll need another cooler.

Cab and Chardonnay sound pretty standard, so that's easy.

For beer I love the local suggestion! FH could pick something medium bodied. Should I do Whiteclaw, Corona or Coors light as the other two?

If you have a Total Wine or a wine store near you, they will be able to tell you really popular wines in your area at whatever budget you have. I know a lot of Moscato is too sweet for some people but it is really popular. I'd do a white and a red wine. We are only having beer and wine at our wedding.

For beer, everyone we know basically drinks bud light or miller lite, and they have strong opinions and won't drink the other one. So we will probably have both of those and then a popular craft beer, probably something from Devils Backbone or a local brewery bc there are TONS where we live.

If we were having liquor, I'd have Jack Daniels, a clear rum drink (thats my favorite) and probably vodka. I personally turn into the hulk when I drink gin and I know a lot of people do too hahaha. Same with tequila. Maybe have fireball or something fun for shots?

Yes to the Fireball! Fh loves it! I like it too, but I've been trying to cut back on sugar.
I figured it out! Heres my list:
    Tequila, vodka, rum, fireball
Coors light, a local red, an import
    Cabernet and Sauvignon blanc
Tonic, soda, pepsi and diet pepsi, cranberry, lemonade, and margarita mix.
