Jackie, on July 12, 2015 at 7:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

Im deciding on mine right now, and all I've got is my something blue, I'm sewing a blue elephant patch on the inside of my dress, elephants are my favorite animals. So, what are you guys doing for yours? (:

Mine sort of overlap with each other in some places.

~My somethings new are my ring and dress (and I suppose heaedpiece and veil really).

~Something blue/old is my grandfathers service pin from the university he worked for which has sapphires.

~Also blue and old is my garter. I am making it myself from lace my great-grandmother handmade and some blue lace I fell in love with on etsy.

~I still don't have a something borrowed and it has really been the hardest thing. My mother had a couple ideas but so far we haven't found the perfect thing. She suggested her pearls but I really don't want a necklace because I don't think it will look right with my dress.

~I LOVE my sixpence! I wanted to stick to tradition and actually use a real silver one so I went to ebay and etsy to find one. I ended up falling in love with one that is actually a love token and I think that just adds to the romance of it. For those who aren't familiar love tokens are really fun. They are coins that have been smoothed down on one side and then hand engraved with a design, often including a name or names. They were common in war times or other times where it was difficult to purchase "real" jewelry so they worked with what they had. Mine has a really unique design and a name on it. I love that it's already been part of a love story once and now it will be part of ours. My shoes are fairly open so I didn't feel comfortable putting it inside and since they're wedges I didn't want to stick it to the bottom but since it was already drilled and hung on a jump ring I just put it on an anklet that I will wear.

Mine overlap too. My shoes are new and blue (and I love them!!) My earrings are borrowed pearls from my favorite aunt. My old things are a bracelet of my grandmother's and a pocket watch that belonged to my granddad. I may find another old though because I'd like to carry something that belonged to each of my grandparents since they're all gone now.

Something old- I have a few of my moms brooches in my bouquet

    Something new- my dress

Something borrowed- my Aunt's handkerchief which was her something old at her wedding 29 years ago.

Something blue- a blue French Horn brooch in my bouquet

The vendor that I ordered my bridesmaid bouquets from sent me a sixpence. I thought that was very cool it's also from the year my mom was born.

I'm using my mom's veil as my something old and borrowing a two strand pearl necklace. My dress is something new. My shoes are a royal blue.

Don't forget the sixpence in your shoe for good luck Smiley winking technically part of the rhyme!

My something old and borrowed is the same thing- my grandfather fought in the Korean War, and when he came home he brought 3 pearl necklaces for his wife, mother and grandmother. Now that they are all passed, the necklaces belong to my mom and aunts. My mom is letting me wear hers Smiley smile

My something blue is my shoes and my something new is everything else- dress, veil, earrings, bracelet, etc!

I wore my grandma's pearls as my something old, a friend's mother's earrings as my something borrowed, pretty much my whole outfit as my something new, and the little sapphire in my ring, my garter, and a ribbon to tie the pearls into a choker (I have a scar from a tracheotomy I wanted to hide) as my something blue.

My wedding day attire is my something new. Other than that I just have my something borrowed that is my best friend/bridesmaid's veil from when she was married a few years ago. I guess it could be considered as something old also, but I'm going to keep looking. Just thought about it, my ring I guess could be something blue and new...it has blue diamonds in it for the main stone.

Something old is pearl earrings that were my grandma's. Something new is my necklace fh bought me to wear. Something borrowed... I have no idea! Something blue will be a heart from my dad's shirt sewn into my dress. If I can't find a blue shirt, I'll use a different color and blue thread.
