What is too hot and too cold?

Haley, on September 27, 2017 at 1:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

In light of the thread from yesterday about keeping cool in an outdoor wedding in July, it got me thinking. What does everyone consider to be too hot for an outdoor wedding? What about too cold?

We are planning on having an outdoor ceremony on our venues patio space. It will be in January at 4:30pm and we will have a few heaters. We are in California, so it could be mid-high 60s, but obviously it could drop. The ceremony can absolutely be moved indoors (we will wait until the week-of to decide).

At what temperature should we plan on moving inside? What about those with a summer wedding- how hot is too hot?

Mid to high 60s and sunny I'd be okay. Once that sun goes away, I'd be chilly.

Too hot over 80 (especially if it's humid, like it is here in MN) and too cold is below 55 for me. 68-75 is the sweet spot in my opinion. Smiley smile

I think 85 is still too hot, definitely max 80 if there's little to no humidity. If ts 80 and humid that's too hot.

Agree with Ashley. Anything outside of 65 - 80 needs to be inside.

I think it depends on the region. Here in New England, fall weddings are a big thing...so people will be outside down to 40 degrees! People also still have outdoor summer weddings, and I have been outside on days where it was pushing 85-90.

The majority of weddings I have attended have had some outdoor element, whether it was photos, ceremony, or the whole thing (even one in January where it was 25 degrees!). Also about knowing your crowd.

Our wedding is outdoors the first week of October. It could be 85, it could be 45. We just hope for the mid range and have some backup plans in case!

I looked up stats on this recently and the official answer is that below 68 or above 75 are outside the comfort range of a sedentary adult. (The range skews colder if the people in question are engaged in some sort of physical work.)

It is absolutely too hot if it's over 75 degrees. It is absolutely too cold outside if guests aren't dressed appropriately.
