What is the purpose of a Grooms Cake??

Deanna, on May 19, 2017 at 9:20 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

I keep seeing others post about grooms cakes, What is the purpose of one. I highly doubt I am going to have one, but I'm just curious HAHA

I dont understand them either. I left it up to FH on if he wanted to get one or just have the wedding cake.. he didnt see the point either and we are just getting a wedding cake.

I think they're more of a Southern thing. I've never been to a wedding that didn't have one. Some people have them at the rehearsal dinner. We had ours on our dessert table at the wedding. It was a way for him to have something that was all him, so I liked that about it. It's definitely not required though.

I like the idea of having it at the rehearsal dinner, but since he picked one flavor of our wedding cake and I picked the other, I think that is good enough Smiley smile

I had one for my DH but we had it at our Welcome dinner. It was something that was completely about the groom. It was an added expense but seeing the look on his face...worth every penny! I think it's just a sweet way to put some focus on the groom as so much wedding is focused on the bride. Some people also use it as a way to offer a different cake flavor.

No clue FH and I agreed on one cake. He doesn't know it but the cake flavor will be red velvet which is his favorite.

I have never seen one at any wedding I've attended in NY or New England. I think its regional.

From what I can tell, its a cake to show the groom's personality or interests instead of the traditional white tiered wedding cake.

It's just a fun tradition that is more popular in the south! Grooms cakes are often super personalized for the groom's favorite team or hobby. They can be in addition to the wedding cake at the wedding, or you could have one at the rehearsal dinner!

My MIL ordered one at the last minute for the rehearsal dinner and DH loved it!

As a blonde, your title sucks.

A groom's cake is mostly a southern tradition from what I know. It's a second cake that shows off what the groom wants instead of a girly wedding cake. Watch Steel Magnolias. It's the Armadillo.

I've never seen one at a wedding I attended. I've literally only seen them on Cake Boss. It's really up to you and FH is you want one. It seems like something extra that I personally wouldn't want to have to deal with.

There is no point and its a waste of money IMO when you have a beautiful wedding cake already. We did do one however for the rehearsal dinner.

I agree with Lilly, your title is pretty offensive.

I am doing one for FH because I wanted to add something I know he will love. First, he is a big science buff and second, that man loves him some cake. So I am doing just a small, 6 inch galaxy cake for him.

No clue! Our venue offers wedding packages though & its included so we may go ahead & have one, or we'll upgrade the wedding cake & leave our the grooms cake. FH doesn't see the point in it either.

I have never been to a wedding where there wasn't one, but I'm from Texas, so I guess it is a southern thing. It's pretty standard lol, when we went for our cake tasting, our baker asked what FH wanted before what I wanted I guess because his is simple (which it kind of isn't lol).

Our small tiered cake is effectively our groom's cake, but it's really for the both of us. The front will be elegant and stereotypical, but the back will have tentacles bursting out Smiley smile We're both cthulhu mythos fans. It's a sea monster.

Otherwise we're serving cupcakes. ETA: meant to also chime in and agree that associating blonde hair with ditzy-ness is offensive.

I'm having one at the rehearsal dinner. Partially because his favorite flavor of cake got vetoed for the wedding cause other flavors beat it out. I'm surprising him with it. It's going to be a pokeball with I choose you written on it, red velvet cake with cream cheese.

Growing up in Louisiana, there was always a grooms cake. I think it's a little something fun that gives the guests an alternative cake choice. FH is getting a cookie cake which my little brother is so excited for!

I was thinking about getting FH a groom's cake but the price of the wedding cake nixed that idea lol
