What is the purpose of a Florist???

I'm so confused! As I continue in my beginning stages of planning. I'm trying to figure out what exactly does the florist do and are they necessary. I'm hoping to cut down on a lot of cost in our budget with DIY and flowers were one of them. But if I get flowers from Costco or order flowers...

I'm hoping to cut down on a lot of cost in our budget with DIY and flowers were one of them. But if I get flowers from Costco or order flowers online....would I still need a florist? Can you take your own flowers to the florist to have them put together? Is that crazy?!! I'm sorry...I know this probably sounds like a crazy questions but I have no idea!

I think it depends on the type of wedding you're having whether they are necessary or not. For mine, we are having over 200 people and there is no way I want to worry about flowers... But they are a necessary part of my vision.

I went to a wedding a few weekends ago and she did fake bouquets and just had baby's breath for the aisle and the centerpieces- beach wedding. Easy peasy and it looked gorgeous.

Just depends on what you want... But I know I wouldn't add that pressure to myself... I personally could never DIY flowers but I know people that did it and they came out great.

I diy my flowers. I ordered a bouquet set from Sams club, but I did our birdcage centerpieces. All I had to do was keep the flower water clean and the flowers cold, then cut the stems for the birdcages. My mom's friend, who has decorated weddings, assembled then day of and decorated my entire venue. She was awesome. If you don't have help, I don't recommend doing it by yourself.

I am not doing flowers as center pieces I am not a big flower person and can not see spending that much money on something is going to die in a few days. I am getting coursages, bouquets and boutineeres. I ordered then all from bunchesdirect.com. They have some beautiful choices or you can customize your own. It was easy and I did it all from my couch!

My mother is a florist. the things that she can create is like nothing i could ever do DIY. if you're on the fencce about it, go with a florist. they can make suggestions, make beautiful arrangements, and save the day if something goes wrong. if you just want some simple stems in a vase, then you can DIY. but if you're looking for great looking pieces, then go with a florist. i couldn't imagine trying to do flowers too the night before or the day of my wedding.

I have to laugh when someone says "the flowers will just die -- why spend money on them." Think about what happens to the food served at the reception. If the guests are just going to poop it out, why serve it, LOL!

It really just comes down to what is important to you and where you want to spend your money. Some couples are okay with everything DIY and others have the money to spend and want to be able to enjoy the day. Creating a floral arrangement is an art; there is a reason why they are priced what they are. If you like the look of flowers in a vase, that's great! There really is no right or wrong. Just depends on what your inspiration is.

I didn't need one more thing to worry about and I have zero floral arranging experience so we have one for church decorations and bouquets/bouts. The reception hall will be flower-free. I didn't want to spend the money.

You can certainly buy your own flowers. However, I have seen some disasters due to improper handling of flowers, (they were wilted and brown). I have also seen people have an idea in their head and they order flowers and the flowers come in "wrong". They are too small, the wrong color, or aren't able to handle the heat or cold on the day of the wedding. I've also seen brides, or families of brides hurriedly putting together centerpieces in the venue. It takes them all day, they are sweaty, tired and stressed out before the wedding even starts. Sometimes it's worth it to hire a professional. Most florists will not work with flowers that you bring them. They can't guarantee quality, and their name is on the finished product. Good Luck!

Personally, I would not be able to handle not having a florist. My florist is doing everything from flowers to linens to chargers to chairs. And not to mention all the set up at the hotel. I love that I do not have to be involved at all. I want to wake up and literally do nothing on the day of the wedding except look fabulous and have a great time!
