What is the difference between banquet style and reception style?

LV BRIDE, on December 28, 2015 at 1:13 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

My reception venue gave me two options "banquet style" or "reception style" set up and i am unsure what they mean exactly. Does anyone know what they mean and would you kindly explain it to me? Also, they said if I do it banquet style I can fit 37 guests my guest count is 30 or reception style and I can fit 70? I don't want the room to feel crowded because they are basing the maximum occupancy on fire code only. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

Banquet style is just round tables with chairs. Reception is a combination of round tables and smaller cocktail tables.

Thank you, now which is a better way to go? I am thinking reception style for my size of room and guest count but I also want there to be enough seating for everyone.

If your guest count is 30, I'd go with banquet style. If you go with reception style for 70, the room is going to look empty with less than half that number of people there. Why wouldn't there be enough seating for everyone?

If you are serving a meal at the reception I would definitely go with banquet style so that everyone has a place to sit and eat Smiley smile With reception style everyone will be standing with tall cocktail tables to rest their food and drink on. That's why there's such a big difference between the 2 capacities.
