Ok, you know those veils that are usually worn underneath an updo, they're skinny and don't come over your shoulders at all? Seriously what are those called and why is it so hard for me to find them?? lol

Well, maybe I described that badly, the ones I'm thinking of are maybe waist or elbow length, but they aren't so wide that you drape them over your shoulder. Did that make sense? ha...

Veils tend to be divided into lengths

    (getting bigger)

    Birdcage

    Shoulder/Flyaway

    Elbow

    Fingertip

    Ballerina

    Chapel

    Cathedral

(you also have bouffant, blusher mantilla, 3 layer, which fit in a different places)

Then they have widths anywhere between around 50 and over 100. So you pick the lenth then go for a skinny one and then it is about placement.

    Does that make sense?

The type of fabric they're made out of can make them lay differently as well.

I think you just mean single tier veil? Usually chiffon lays pretty flat.

I don't know that they have a special name, but they are "narrow-width veils" When I was checking on Etsy to order my veil, many of the vendors gave you the option of not just the length of the veil but the width of the fabric. The smaller the width, the narrower the veil so you would get that straight line in whatever length you wanted.

I've not seen that option in bridal stores though but you could ask if any of their veils come in narrow widths

They are made from material that is 54" wide rather than the standard 72" wide or 108" for extra full veils. I've seen them in single tier as well as double tier and in all lengths from short to cathedral length... but again I have not noticed them in the bridal shops i've been in, but if you google narrow length veils you'll get quite a selection on etsy or ebay in handmade

I have seen them called sheer before. They have different thickness: full. medium and sheer.

I think this may have more to do with how you WEAR the veil than the actual WIDTH of the veil. However, this very well may be like MinD said...

Why don't you go to a salon and try some on. tell them what you are looking for. I feel like most will have some selection. Then, if you don't want the bridal salon price, look for the same thing online. Make them write down style numbers for you.
