What is 'economy Polyester'

Leesha, on April 14, 2015 at 5:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

So a few months back i posted about renting/ vs buying table cloths.

The place where i am getting married, told me that if i bought the table cloths that they would buy them back from me at the wedding. ( They signed a contract saying they would reimburse me)

So i found these table cloths, for 5.99/piece .. But it says 'Economy Polyester'

I have no idea what that means. I tried to google it, but could not find any information really. (Maybe i wasnt looking hard enough?)

Smiley atonished

Sorry if a dumb question.

I have never heard of economy polyester but, I imagine it is terrible. Polyester is already an economical alternative to natural fibers, so economy polyester, idk.

I got them. I still have no idea what it actually is but the tablecloths are fine. Not too cheap feeling or anything like that if it makes you feel better.

I don't think it is saying that the material is "Economy Polyester", rather, they are using economy as a key word in the title to accentuate that these table cloths are bulk, bare bones, nothin' fancy. So I don't think you have to worry about some super gross bottom of the barrel poly fabric. It certainly wont be as nice as a real linen, but it will be fine most likely Smiley smile

Get a sample if you can. I wouldn't buy them without; I believe my graduation gown was made out of that. Like it used to be Coke bottles....

I bought some of these. They aren't "scratchy" or feel plastic-y at all. They have a decent weight to them, so they won't be blown all over the place. And the poly-blend they used is not like graduation gown material. They're tablecloths. Especially if you have an overlay, no one is going to care that these are a poly-blend fabric and not 100% linen.

Admittedly the hemming could use some work but I'm a part-time seamstress so I notice those things. Again though, they're tablecloths. No one will be inspecting the hemming.

Yeah that's the stuff graduation gowns are made of. You don't want to wash them as they get all gross.

Yes technically polyester is plastic but don't think party store plastic table clothes. Polyester is a very common cheap fabric. Most cheap bridesmaids dresses are polyester. Some polyester is better than others, so see if you can get a sample.

It's a tablecloth. It's only use in a wedding is for decor. Unless you are buying it for your house. I wouldn't worry about it. You're going to use it one time and sell it or toss it.
