What is considered a "Small" Registry?

Chip, on September 25, 2017 at 1:32 PM Posted in Registry 0 12

So everyone on here says if you want cash for your wedding, have a small registry. We definitely want cash, but we have a registry with some upgrades and "nice to haves". Between the three registries, we have ~180 items for our 180 person guest list at all price points, and I anticipate having 2 showers (one with my family OOT, and one with his family and local friends).

Too much? Not enough? I'm quite content with what we've got picked out, and I don't want to add unnecessary stuff that we don't really need or want, just to fill space, and there are several items I can trim yet

We had 25 items of varying price points, and a guest list of 137. No showers. I wouldn't consider your registry small. ETA - We received every item on our registry except one, which surprised me. We also received three items off registry, only one of which was actually random. The other two off-registry gifts were from two of my closest friends and were really special, thoughtful gifts. If people want to get you physical gifts they will, and if people want to give monetary gifts they will.

I'm not sure I'd consider three registries with a total of 180 items a small registry. When I think of a small registry, I would expect to see one registry, and probably 50ish items.

That said, we had three store registries and probably 200ish items on them (I considered this to be a big registry) and most of our wedding guests gave us cards with checks or cash (and a couple gift cards). Most of the stuff that we received off our registries were given by shower guests. I think if guests really want to gift money, they'll do it regardless of the couple's registry.

180 items is a massive registry! We had maybe 50-ish things and people bought about half of them. The rest gave money.

We also invited about 180, but figured we would probably have about 120 due to there being a lot of out of town friends and family on the list. We had 113.

"I'm quite content with what we've got picked out"

Sounds like it's the perfect size!

That is definitely not a small registry. If you have 2 showers, 180 people will definitely not attend. While some people may get you more than one item the likelihood is that you will have left over items. Some people may see this and will bring gifts to your wedding and some may bring cash.

Place what you want on your registry because the reality is now days most people don't even look at your list they will just give you a gift card or cash. I had about 80 items on my registry with a guest list of 85 and I think we maybe got 15-20 items on the list and all of those were at the Bridal Shower or people who were invited and couldn't make it to either event.

We had about 140 items on our registry and 99% of people still gave us cash for the wedding itself. People bought off the registry for the shower.

My registry has less than 40 items for a 97 person guest list. I'm hoping everyone gets the hint to give cash

Our registry has 27 items. (GL of ~80) My aunt and uncle already bought 10 of those because they can't come. I only made a registry because I'm having a shower so now I'm thinking we should add a few more items.

Just out of curiosity, can you share what percentage of your registry was purchased by guests? I'm inviting 120 people and have 40 items on my registry, but many are big-ticket / upgrade items (we're mostly hoping for cash to cover the wedding costs). I'm just curious because I feel like many of my friends don't like / believe in registries, but my family and FH's family asked about it, so we made one.
