Tell them you don't have one or that your theme is "wedding." If you really want to be specific you can say romantic, but weddings definitely don't have to be themed.

You don't need to have a theme, you can have a color scheme and feeling if that makes sense?

Some people do nautical, or rustic, or country. It became so popular to have a theme people now just assume all weddings have themes.
Saying romantic is a good way to put it, I say floral because my fiance wants flowers on as much as possible

Nautical, rustic and country, or your floral theme all sound really nice. I can't stand it when people feel the need to do nerd weddings, or Disney weddings, or camo weddings. It's sooooo so awful to me.

I'm not having a theme. I want a casual fun wedding. I've drawn inspiration from forest weddings, boho weddings, and camp weddings. I'm doing simple black tablecloths on the rented tables, wood tables with cheesecloth runners, an old boat as the bar, lights everywhere (candles, lanterns, etc) Blues, oranges, and pops of copper will be our colors. Im more so going for a "feel" than a theme. I want something casual and fun. I want to feel the warmth and the love and for it to be sweet.

I'm not into saying, oh cool we both like Harry Potter and that defines our relationship. Or we dressed up as Alice in Wonderland one Halloween let's make our wedding like that. I. Don't. Get. It. 🙄

Lol we don’t have a theme either, but it has a “rustic chic” feel to it

We're doing Maryland colors with a DC theme. We both grew up in MD, we live in DC, and we're getting married at a very iconic location in DC. We're going to have nods to the city via table names and our monogram.

I don't know so much about needing a theme as it is needing a vision.

My personal theory is that themes are for proms not weddings.
I barely have a color scheme.
You can just say you don't have one. The world won't end. Smiley smile

This can also refer to your 'style' or 'vibe.' My husband and I had a very quirky artsy-vibe. It wasn't really a theme, per say. The vibe just helped set the personality of the party!

Other examples could be a soft romantic, shabby chic, etc. Most people have a style they like or an image they're going with - but not necessarily a theme.

Some people do really heavy theming like Disney, 20's (I would love this but don't think I could get my family into it), super beachy, etc. My friend is planning to have a Halloween themed wedding.

It seems like most people don't go for heavy theming and stick to a color pallet and a general style.

With your colors and lights you could call it "night under the stars" or something, but you can also just tell people there's no specific theme.

Yeah, we don't have a theme either. We are getting married at a country club, and the colors are basically neutrals (very light pink, champagne, ivory, gold, etc.). We are just kind of doing a classic, elegant wedding.

At first I didn't think I had a theme either because I thought of my colors and centerpieces, but I guess it matches with fall rustic chic I suppose. I am using a lot of wood in my decor but I also have lanterns, flower boxes, and tiered floating candle centerpieces (all 3 alternating on tables). I am making the floating candles more rustic/fall by filling them with acorns probably and fake berry vine. I wanted to use tons of lanterns elsewhere too like for the ceremony aisle, which I think is fine to do.

We are getting married in a fabulous, Greek Revival mansion. FH and I both love history and antiques. This is the perfect venue for us. Our theme is Victorian. Everything we are doing looks like we sorta traveled thru time. This place just gives one that feeling. You definitely do not need a theme. Ours was natural given our venue. I love your colors!!

We don't have a theme. We just have certain colors & decor we like. I think that's fine!

A theme isn’t necessarily important. It just kinda describes the vibe of your wedding. Our theme, for example, would be considered Rustic based on the decor I’ve chosen. We’re using a lot of wood and sunflowers, which seem to be staples for Rustic themed weddings. From what you’ve described, I’d say your theme definitely falls into the Romantic category. 😊
