What is a Doc?

Carol, on February 1, 2018 at 12:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi there- so I have no idea what a Day of Cordinator does that I should not do? No one I have known has had one but I’ve heard it talked about a lot here. What stress to they relieve? i have quite a bit planned already:

-set up for reception the day before (run by me)
-set up for ceremony morning of
-booked photographer
-booked food, Olive Garden pasta bar (headed up by a family friend)
-booked ceremony DJ

what all is there for a DOC to do? I would appreciate some advice and also how much someone like this charges? (Tight budget) the only things I do not have set is how our ceremony Arbor looks, and outfits.

Thank you guys!

They assist with setting up and taking down your event, they also are normally the go to person the day of so you don't have to deal with any issues that may come up. They ensure the timeline is set up and goes accordingly. If you have a small wedding you may not need one--it's purely up to what you plan on doing and dealing with the day of.

My venue comes with a DOC, so her duties are going to be a little different than someone you hire on your own, but in general a DOC is there to be the main point of contact of the day of your wedding for vendors (as opposed to you or a family member), as well as keep the timeline flowing and make sure everyone is where they need to be when they need to be. Because I was in theater I like to think about them as a stage manager - they make sure everyone's there for their cues, makes sure everyone has their props, and keeps things moving. Being the stage manager and staring in the show sounds very stressful to me.

Generally they begin helping with 1-2 months outs. They call all your vendors and schedule times to set up, they basically are the contact so people leave you alone. They remind you of payments do and can even give the vendor their final payments. They set up all the decor, usually the last person to leave, makes sure the timeline of the day is followed, addresses any mishaps that may occur where someone is late or something is missing, they organize your bridal party and let's everyone know where to be, rehearsal dinner, they will clean up and pick up and return rentals if needed. Various things we often don't think about. You definitely need someone as you can't be everywhere at once. They are perfect for those of us who don't need full planning.
