What if my dress gets wet?!

Emily, on April 2, 2021 at 9:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Hiii!!
My fiancé and I are eloping at the end of April and have the small ceremony planned for Central Park. The ceremony itself is going to be covered, but I’m worried about getting to/leaving the park and pictures if it’s raining. I’m wearing my dress this year as well as for our bigger reception next year and I’m very worried something will happen and I won’t be able to have it cleaned properly or it just getting ruined.
Does anyone have any input?

What part of the park are you having the ceremony?

In the underpass at Bethesda Terrace. It’s covered and super accessible by car so we can call cabs or ubers if need be but my seamstress said not to worry about it getting super dirty, just wet. And now I’m super nervous it’ll rain.

Bethesda Terrace is a great spot! I would suggest checking JJ’s house and purchasing one of those photo friendly bridal umbrellas. They are the clear ones that sort of cup more than standard umbrellas if you know what I mean.

Also, what type of dress do you have? Do you have a dress where you could have a bustle added so that way if you have to walk in the rain the bottom won’t get too wet? Maybe you could look on Amazon to see if they have some sort of cute bride groom poncho type of thing. I know, I know, you’re probably thinking what the hell am I saying when I was mentioning ponchos on your wedding day LOL, but I could imagine that to be really cute just to throw on quickly if you just have to walk to the spot you’re getting married. It may make for some memorable pictures as well. Hope this helps!

Omgggg such a gorgeous spot!!!! That’s GREAT that there’s a road right there so you shouldn’t be in the open rain for too long. I wonder if you could do pretty thin cape until you get underneath and have a runner of some sort to the stairs?

I would highly highly recommend the wedding gown preservation company if the dress winds up getting dirty! I worked in bridal for three years, and sometimes the dresses we sent off were really dirty- sandy, or wet, or even had some wine spilled on a train! The dresses always came back absolutely pristine. I used them myself because I bought my wedding gown as a floor sample, and my dress looks brand new. It is a little pricey (~$250) but so so worth it. They've been cleaning wedding gowns for over 100 years and they are the best in the business. There is practically nothing you could do to your dress that they couldn't clean.

I don’t think we could do a full on runner for the stairs but a cape is a great idea! Thank you!!

Trust your seamstress. A good dry cleaner can fix anything.

Runners are a safety hazard on flat ground. On stairs, that's a death trap. Talk to your seamstress about what your options are and trust their expertise.
