When we were planning a wedding originally, we were going to do salad for an appetizers, then just cake and punch. No dinner. I have been seeing many chose a patsta option for dinner since it tends to be more affordable compared to steak or seafood.

Hi Michelle! We served choice of Vegetarian Pasta or a duet plate of Parmesan Chicken and steak with red mashed potatoes and asparagus. Pineapple salad was served before dinner.
Appetizers during cocktail hour were chocolate covered strawberries, stuffed mushrooms and pot stickers. We had a cookie table (individually wrapped) and edible favors of chocolate toffees and peach salt water taffy (at each seat). Wedding cake choice of vanilla or lemon.
We had a summer wedding so incorporated a touch of summer in the menu 🍋🥂🍰

Our reception is hors d'oeuvres only and will include spring rolls with sweet chili sauce, crab cakes with remoulade dipping sauce, carne asada pinwheels, and assorted cheeses with bread and crackers. We're also considering adding chips and salsa. Dessert will be cake and cupcakes for sure, and possibly adding cookies as well. That will depend on how many guests plan to attend.

We’re having a destination wedding in Italy and we’re huge foodies so good food is a must for us. We’re doing a 5 course meal including truffle risotto, tomato-based pasta, steak with wine sauce, then you have salad (true Italian fashion - salad at the end of a meal), then dessert which we haven’t decided on what we’re going to do. Not the traditional wedding cake that’s for sure though.

Appetizers for cocktail hour: bruschetta, spanikopita, mini chicken & waffles, and a display of cheese and fruit and crackers

Everyone gets a tossed salad, and a choice of either chicken cordon bleu or prime rib. There’s also a three-cheese stuffed shells option for vegetarians or kids. Regardless of the entree, everyone gets the same sides (stuffed baked potato, roasted veggies, and a cheddar biscuit).
As far as I’m aware, none of our guests are vegan and only one is gluten-intolerant so I’ll talk to my caterer about those specific situations if/when they arise, and it’s a plated meal so it should be pretty simple to just do one or two special entrees if need be! Otherwise we just ordered things that we both thought sounded delicious lol and we’re fairly picky eaters so if we like it, most other folks should, too!

I’m really the odd woman out on these planning forums I’ve realized... we’re not doing a formal dinner or even a hefty buffet. I worry it’ll be enough food but it always seemed sufficient at other weddings! (I used to work for this caterer and loved their food so much, I knew I had to hire them for my own wedding)
They technically refer to their packages as “hors d’oeuvres” but they’re more like smaller portioned entrees.
We’re doing: pulled pork sliders, chicken Marsala tenderloins, salmon sushi rolls, a fruit/veggie display and spinach artichoke dip. (In addition to a beer/wine bar, and Italian soda bar, and the cake of course)

So comforting to see someone else doing a similar idea as me. I’ve seen all of these couples planning the most elaborate cocktail hour, appetizers, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert (on top of their cake!) and was so worried I’m planning a cheap insufficient party!

We're doing a buffet! Two Salad Options, Two Pasta Options, Two Entrees, Two Carving Stations and a venetian table for desert. Our Buffet also includes 10 Passed Hot Hor'derves for our Cocktail Hour.l

It's so much food but for the price and the discount we got for a Friday Wedding we couldn't pass it up!

During the cocktail hour, raspberry & Brie puff pastry. Dinner- Spring salad with balsamic or ranch dressing; chicken Marsala or beef peppercorn (with horseradish); garlic mashed potatoes; steamed veggies; Hawaiian sweet rolls with honey butter or regular butter. Plus cake! Buying, from a local bakery, chocolate covered toffee that will be put out during the dancing.

Oh, I know! I think it's super fun to hear what everyone else is doing, but we definitely can't afford that. We have a super tight budget, so anything more than an hors d'oeuvres reception would be out of budget. We're having the ceremony early in the afternoon so people will have (hopefully) had lunch beforehand and the reception will end at 6:30 - definitely not too late to go out for dinner!

Have you asked your favorite local restaurant if they cater? Usually they can feed a huge crowd a full meal with leftovers for the same price that just basic appetizers costs from a wedding caterer.

Your guests will be happy and fed and all together it's more than a plated meal. I wouldn't worry about it..

Our reception is in Maine so we are going very seafood heavy haha. Our cocktail hour will have a raw bar (oysters, shrimp, mussels, etc) and charcuterie display and passed appetizers of mini lobster rolls, spring rolls, mini beef Wellington, and scallops wrapped in bacon. Dinner is plated with a salad to start and then guests can choose from a duet of filet mignon and lobster tail, salmon, or vegan ravioli. Our wedding cake is lemon with blueberries and a buttercream frosting Smiley smile

That does sound good. Be careful with seafood allergies.

Hors d'oeuvres are crab cakes, caprese salad, and a tuna tartare cup. Dinner is either cod and potatoes in a light red sauce or beef Wellington. Dessert is cake!
