What does vendor meal mean?

Leigh, on July 4, 2017 at 3:41 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

When looking at pricing on the menu for the venues, what does it mean when it says vendor meal : $50/person. Is that how much it will cost per person ?

Recently engaged, so this is all new to me!

Thanks for your help,

Leigh Ann

Cost of the meal your caterer will prepare to feed your vendors (officiant, photographer, etc).

"Some people feed their vendors" - umm, everyone should feed the vendors that work the majority of the wedding day.

You should definitely feed your vendors since they will be there for 6+ hours. Typically the venue won't count them in your bar tab so it should cost less than the other adults.

It's usually a meal that doesn't include your open bar and it may e a stripped down version. It's offered to any vendor who is staying the evening (DJ's,music, photographers). If your officiant is staying, usually it's because they're a family pastor or rabbi and they should just eat what everyone else does, at the same price.

Usually means a paired down meal. For ours it was $40 per person which only included the main course for the meal, no appetizers, no first or dessert, no alcohol etc. Just one plate of the main course.

This is for the vendors who are staying during dinner time. If you have any such as photographers, DJs etc, you should feed them this meal.

My vendors require a meal in their contract so you should double check that too!

At my venue, feeding the vendors is mandatory. (As it should be.) So check to see if your venue/caterer requires it. If I choose vendors from the venue's preferred list, the vendor meal price is half. Maybe see if your venue also offers this kind of discount.

My venue said the vendor meal was a discounted meal because it didn't include alcohol. Our price per plate included the alcohol package. We also get that lowered plate price for anyone pregnant and under 21 years old.

Seconding checking your contract! It's in the contract for our photographer.

I would feed them even if it wasn't though. They are working hard, and making sure they are comfortable is the least we can do!

You should also ask the vendors.

Two of our vendors (DOC and videographer) had no mention of meals in the contract, so I asked them both about it. Our DOC says she never accepts a meal, she's a picky eater and brings her own snacks. The videographer said the meal was entirely at our discretion, so we're doing one for him but not for the DOC.

Our vendors are getting our actual meal just without the alcohol.

Some caterers offer discounted meals for your vendors. Many of my vendors require a meal (I need to double check but I think it's just the ones that will be there the whole time: wedding planner, photographer, DJ). My caterer doesn't offer a discounted price for them so I just pay the same meal price for them that I'm paying for my guests. Most likely, the guest price would be more expensive than the vendor meal.
