What does father say when giving away the daughter?

They are typically asked "who.gives this woman to be married" or some version of that, and the responses vary from "I do" to "her mother and I do" to "her family does"

My dad will be saying "her mother and I do" tomorrow!

Usually when the officiant asks “Who gives this women...” the father replies “I do” or he may say “Her mother and I do. (The second one is how many brides want it done) I say it’s up to the MOB, Bride and FOB

My son is giving me away and he will say " I do, her Eldest Son".

We had our ceremony written for us and when I was "given away" by my father, no words were exchanged. He just hugged me, shook my husband's hand and we proceeded on. I think exchanging words and saying "Who gives this women..." is odd and way too archaic for me personally.

View Quoted Comment I agree, no one should be treated as property to be given from one person to another. Words of support and blessing are lovely, if it's coming from both sides. At my wedding and at my daughter's the pastors asked both sets of parents if they give their support and blessings to the couple and the response was "We do".
