Private User, on July 8, 2017 at 11:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Our officiant is a family friend & keeps asking me what he needs to wear.. we're having a rustic themed wedding & the guys are wearing jeans, white long sleeve button ups w grey vests & bow ties.. i dont want the officiant in the same outfit as the guys but still want him to match

All his weddings he's had to wear a tux for.. he'd stand out like a sore thumb if he did that at ours lol

Because you are doing a rustic theme, this might be why he's confused on what he should wear. Tell him what type of clothes... Jeans, khakis, dress pants, jacket, tie, vest, etc. That you prefer he wear. If there are certain colors you don't want, just tell him.

Maybe khakis, a dress shirt and a patterned neck tie?

Your officiant shouldn't match your BP. I've seen then in everything from jeans to cocktail dresses, both bad plans.

This is an authority figure at a sacred event, even if it's secular. They should wear dress pants, a dress shirt (not short sleeves) and a tie. They should basically be not noticeable but neat and pro.

Even for our four person elopements, my officiant Michael wears a suit.

I would have him wear dress slacks and a button up shirt with a tie. Jacket if you want. That is just me.

Ours was also a more casual wedding but our officiant wore a black suit, white shirt but without a tie.

An officiant can wear whether you are together comfortable with! I love that your GM will be in jeans! Given their clothes, I'd expect the officiant to be in jeans too. Maybe with a button-up shirt and tie?

    Overalls. Have him wear overalls.

Just kidding. A button up and slacks would be nice.

As a wedding officiant it's my job to look professional yet not stand out or match. The groom and his groomsmen are the ones being spotlighted, not me. Perhaps a jacket over a button down shirt for the ceremony? He can ditch the jacket afterwards. Best wishes!
