What does a social distancing ceremony look like?

Kayla, on May 12, 2020 at 9:35 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5
Covid has cancelled our big May 16th wedding. We are now holding our intimate ceremony at the outdoor chapel we originally planned. We are having our kids, parents, siblings, and my grandmother. Our goal is to distance by household. I’m just hoping it doesn’t make it awkward for everyone trying to remember and keep their distance. We also booked cabins near by for everyone to stay at since the drive home is long and ceremony is at sunset. That way we can all eat a meal outdoors together and have our spaces to go to. I just hope I’m doing the right thing. Everyone seems to be excited and ok with it. I’m just starting to overthink and worry if we are being selfish going through with this. Crazy world we live in now...

I don't think you're being selfish. It seems like you've put a lot of thought into doing this in the most careful way possible. I hope everything goes well!

You could have specific markers or seats for people to sit in if you feel that’ll help people distance from one another that way you’re spacing them out yourself

This sounds like the way to do it, so well done!

As Melle said, probably the best way is to set up seating in such a way as to keep everyone safe. Maybe decorate the seating, as well, so people won't move them?

Also, sweet little signs or programs to remind them?

    Good luck!

Hi Kayla! These are impossibly tough times and everyone's just doing what they can! Smiley heart

I think it sounds like you have a really reasonable plan with safe distancing steps in mind! You could set up several little bistro tables six feet apart and decorate them for an intimate and beautiful reception. I love Rebecca's idea of including an extra sweet note or sign to remind your family that you can still feel the love six feet apart!

It could also be fun to bring back kissing bells at each table as way a to involve everyone, or have festive party crackers at each place setting (a British party tradition my mom has fully embraced), or some fun confetti poppers for them to set off!

I read a few articles about what the post covid wedding world may look— possibly bigger tables that seat less people, no dance floor, standing ceremony, masks worn, guest “shifts” such as 25 guests in the afternoon they leave then 25 come at night. it sucks but its all doable to make your day possible
