What does a bridesman wear?

Traci, on September 5, 2017 at 7:27 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 16

Were looking at tuxes/suits this weekend. Has anyone had a bridesman? I have one and I'm not sure what to have him wear. To me, it would look weird for him to match the groomsmen but I also dont think he should stand out more than the groom. What have you done or what have you seen be done? Thanks in advance

We don't have a bridesman, but we have a groomsmaid (?) . She will wear the same dress as the bridesmaids, but in the same color as the groomsmen's suits. Maybe you could have him wear the same suit as the guys but in the color of your girls dresses? Assuming your girls have like blue dresses or something. Probably would look a bit too intense if it was fuschia...

I would just get him the same color tux/suit as the groomsmen!

My brother is the man of honor and he is wearing the same suits as all the men except for my FH. It's a personal preference really. Just remember you're the one that will be critiquing your photos so do what you like.

Maybe your bridesman could wear a different boutonnière than the groomsmen, or coordinate the tie or pocket square with the bridesmaids' outfits.

My bridesmen and his groomsmen are in the same tux. My guys have royal blue vests/ties to match my dress; his guys have the classic black vests/ties to be, well, classic. (FH will have a white tie and vest.)

I would match his tux to the rest of your ladies for the sake of cohesiveness. And if that means wearing fuschia, then so be it!

My bridesman is wearing the same suit as the GM but will be wearing a bow tie instead of a regular tie.

You could have your bridesman match the groomsmen if you like or you could have him in a shirt that matches your BM's. If your BM's are wearing a fairly neutral color like blue or grey, his suit could match them.

I have a funny story that will remind you what he SHOULDN'T wear..... My sister's college friend just got married about a month ago, and we just saw some of the pictures last week... Her Man of Honor was in a suit Jacket that matched the groomsmen tux's, a tie and vest that matched the girls formal floor-length dresses, a black shirt underneath all that rather than white, and a pair of SHORTS.

He stood out alright.... Fashion and wedding faux-pas of the year goes to that. It WAS funny though, he split those shorts dancing later on that night. There's pictures of that too.

Anyways, please don't let him wear shorts. Maybe it was their personalities and that bride was probably fine with it... But while everyone else looked dressed for a wedding, he just looked a little over dressed for a golf game..

Like PP suggested, I would probably mix up the tie, but have the same suit otherwise.
