What do you do after a brunch wedding?

Alexa, on July 26, 2020 at 5:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

We are opting to have our wedding 10am-2pm at a venue about two hours away from where we live. I feel the need to entertain guests after the wedding, since it will end so early, but I'm not sure what to do with them. I was thinking about going on the lake with the bridal party but should I plan on something to do for everyone else attending the wedding as well?

Before we postponed our wedding we were planning a brunch wedding, ending at 3:30pm. We didn’t have any extra activities planned that we were hosting (weddings are expensive enough!). But we did list out some things to do for guests, we are in Vegas so it wasn’t that hard to come with ideas but we listed Top Golf, Dave & Busters and a few local bars. We were planning on going to our hotel suite resting up and going to a bar with friends and family if they wanted to go. Everyone would pay their own way.

You really don't need to entertain guests. A brunch wedding would be great (I would love a nap at home afterwards--that sounds like a great day to me!).

You don't need anything else, unless you want to go sight-seeing or something (this is great for destination weddings or for weddings where the majority are out of town or if you're getting married at some place like a lake or ski lodge or something).

We’re having a morning wedding too, reception will wrap up by 12 pm. We listed suggestions on our wedding website for things to do in the area (for those that have never been) and we are posting our itinerary if guests want to join us as we party the rest of the day. Our original plan was to hang out at Oktoberfest after the wedding, but that may or may not be possible- it’s not canceled yet so we’ll see. We also wanted to go ride the rollercoaster and ski lift, not sure that will ne open either. Otherwise, we do have a vacation rental that people could come back to the house with us, there’s tons of hiking in the area, there’s the gondola to go up the mountain, etc. People can entertain themselves. I expect some of our family will just head back home, it’s about 2-3 hours drive for most of our guests and the rest are from out of state so they may just want to get back.

Our wedding starts at sunrise and reception ends by 11-1130 - were invited everyone to join us at the beach for water activities followed by an early sunset dinner on the other side of the island.

I would keep plans open....if people want to go home afterwards and take a nap they can, or if they want to tag along to the lake, extend the invite!

That’s great advice! How many people do you think will come back to the vacation rental?

The WP and their BF/GFs are staying at the house with us, and we have a few close friends attending the wedding that will probably join us. I expect there won't be more than maybe 15-20 of us total. We're not very optimistic that the street festival and adventure park will be open, but I'm sure it'll be a great day regardless.

My mom has already told me she plans to go home after the reception, and I imagine my aunt and grandmother will do the same, along with FH's family. There are only fifty at the wedding, including us, so it's mainly immediate family. Since everyone has to travel at least 2-3 hours and will need to stay the night Friday to be at the sunrise ceremony, I don't imagine many will stay Saturday except the WP.
