What do ushers do?

From all the weddings I've been to, the usher greets guests as they come in and escort them to their seats! I don't think 3 is too much!

Just great & escort guests! We didn't have them, and I wish we did. I would have liked to push guests up to the front more rather than having open spaces for pictures.

I read an article that said have two ushers for every 50 guest

One of my friends helped set up and he kind of stood by my guest sign in table and made sure everyone grabbed a bubble and program also

I have heard 1 per 50 guests but we are going with 2 for 165-ish. We expect our ushers to pass out programs (Catholic wedding with non-Catholic attendees), greet and seat guests. I also do not want attendees to spread out in our large church, I want them to be in the front & middle.

Yes, Ushers generally would greet guests as they come in, show them to their seats, etc. Probably hand out programs as well

Are you having a church wedding? I was recently at a wedding where it was 200+ people and 2 of the 4 ushers were told by the church director they were there to act as security/clean up. The other 2 were the escorts.
