What do my grooms wear?!?!

Future Mrs. Firkins, on March 14, 2017 at 6:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Hey everyone! I'm needing some help here. My fiancé is in the Army, and when asked what he wanted to wear to the wedding, he said probably his dress blues. I'm wearing my wedding dress, obviously, that's a trumpet-style fitted dress; pretty classy looking as well. For my bridesmaids, I had decided that they should just wear plain, pastel dresses, or even simple, small floral prints. I want it to be fairly casual without so much matchy-matchy. I want this to be like Steel Magnolias where everyone is more concerned with the joy and fellowship and not so much the uptightness that sometimes comes with it. With this in mind, I don't know what the groomsmen should wear! Some are in the military and some aren't. I think it should be their preference if they want to wear their dress uniforms. (To me, that's an honor to have them there with us!) For the other guys, what would they wear? Since my girls are dressed-down some, I don't know what to do here...

Thanks for the help in advance!

I would stick to suits for them. I think it would look odd if some were in dress blues and other groomsmen were not remotely formal.

It depends on how dressed down you want to go.. you could do blue jeans but if that's not dressy enough you could always go with some khakis and a button up or something like that? I have seen some people that have the groomsmen wear the tux getup but without the coat so it looks more casual but still dressy at the same time. You can also play with different fabrics to make your men seem more casual but still put together (example: corduroy instead of silk) Your wedding sounds like it will be really great!

I would stick to suits. They don't have to have the fancy vests and cufflinks and whatnot that goes with. There are a lot of casual ideas on Pinterest or Google images

My FH will be wearing his blues, but none of his groomsmen will be. I'm not much help though because I want everything to be matching. I agree with Bee. They need to have the same amount of formality in there outfits.

I would have them in navy blue suits (I cant stand navy and black together). That way there is still a difference between them but not so much so that they stick ou and look awkward.

To make it more casual do no tie and no vest - that is what we are doing! Smiley smile

I would do navy suits also. If the guys in the military are wearing dress blues, navy suits would make the most sense.

I would do grey suits. That would look good with the ladies and your FH.

Maybe they could wear suits without the jacket? Just with pastel colored vests or something. That way they would look dressed up but without the jacket it wouldn't be much of a penguin suit feel. I mean, obviously it's their decisions what to do but that way they would fit in with the feeling of the wedding

Thank you all so much! Lots of great ideas here! I'm gonna have Shawn (my fiancé) talk to his buddies and see if he wears his dress blues, if they want to wear theirs or not. If they do, I'm thinking khaki pants, white shirts, and some navy ties for the other guys. Maybe some different navy patterns? I'd have my girls do up something different with their outfits, whether it be their hair or shoes or jewelry, be a little more dressy just to match.

If he doesn't wear his, I'm thinking khaki pants all around? For him, a brown vest maybe and white shirt with the sleeves rolled up. For the guys, maybe different color and patterned shirts, still in the pastel scheme so it's not too loud. Someone suggested that and I liked it! I think that would match my girls pretty good.

Thanks again! You all are awesome!

We're doing suits without jackets and ties. Very laid back, but classy

I also thought this was going to be a much more interesting post than it turned out to be... Was hoping we had a juicy love triangle going on or something!

FH and one of his GM are in the military but they all will be wearing suits.

Gray would look really nice with those dresses!

My brother wore his dress blues for his wedding and the groomsmen all wore gray suits. The only other guys "in" the wedding that wore their dress blues were the ones that held the sabers for the presentation of my brother and SIL!

Here are the ones that wore their dress blues! They didn't stand at the altar with the groomsmen.

I haven't seen these up close in person so maybe they're more of a navy blue but Navy dress blues are actually black in color, not navy blue even though they're called dress blues. Army dress blues appear to be similar in color as Navy dress blues. If they are actually black like they appear in photos, I wouldn't have groomsmen in Navy blue but I think they would look good in gray or black. Definitely suits. Dress blues are too nice of a uniform to have groomsmen be more casual than a suit. (I took this off the internet to show how it looks with black suits).

Edit: My hidden comment is because I accidentally posted this twice.
