What do i wear.... Groom is struggling to find clothes for men's attire.

Morning all

FW and I originally decided on navy and burgundy, and I really liked the style below. Bridesmaids ended up getting 2 navy and 2 burgundy dresses. We went to mens' wearhouse and spent two hours trying to find something. I hated it all, and I'm starting to think it was just because their test sizes don't fit right. I'm slim and only about 5'7 and all the stuff they had was huge.

I decided on a dark grey with burgundy bow tie, and the groomsmen would wear dark grey with either a navy or burgundy tie. I still didn't like it; it felt like a monkey suit or valet get-up, but I wanted out of the store. Also, this is going to run each of us $230. Not happy with that, since we were lured in with the promise of rentals under $100, but whatever.

I had an "epiphany" a few weeks ago: Let's just go get khaki-colored dress pants, a white dress shirt, and navy or burgundy suspenders and tie/bow tie from JCP or kohls and everyone can keep their nice clothes.

I spent another two hours getting frustrated and upset that nothing was fitting or looked good. Again, I feel like I'm dressing for a funeral or waiter.I'm starting to think I need to just go into a store on my own, but my sense of color coordination is horrible. Also, I don't think this is really going to save us anything.

Any ideas? I'm really lost on what I can wear, that won't break the bank for me and my guys.

This was the original thought. What do i wear.... Groom is struggling to find clothes for men's attire. 1

You'll honestly probably need to get whatever you purchase tailored to fit you. My FH is using Friar Tux (who have been amazing, but are only a CA/NV store) and will still be needing to get his pants/jacket tailored to fit him (he's tall with broad shoulders and a narrow waist). I love your inspiration picture and feel like you could still probably do something along those lines. Have you looked at Macy's or Nordstrom's Rack? Your idea of khaki pants, white dress shirt, and suspenders would also look nice. Maybe look at an Express for a nice, fitted dress shirt and pants? Lots of options available, but be aware you may need alterations for length in the pants.

Did you have someone “dress” you there? They can help you chose a style that will flatter you best. Tailoring will make a difference too. We chose the color scheme you have pictured from Men’s Wearhouse, minus the gray vest. He tried on a few jackets, and we finally asked someone to measure him, and she said he should be a slim. It looked much better. He will be buying a suit, which has different options than renting. It’s not that much more to buy than rent, and then the obv perk is you keep it. Your GMs can rent to coordinate you. It’ll give you a nice pop if you stand out a little differently as well. You could also try another custom suit place, or if there is a different MW near you, try that one.

Do you live near an Indochino show room or J Crew store? Both of those places have a good selection of suits that you buy in separate pieces, so you could just buy the pants or jacket or get both to go full suit. Indochino also offers made-to-order if you’d rather go that route. J Crew often has sales and Indochino often has a coupon online for new customers. Both stores usually have very helpful sales people who can give you a couple ideas on styling. It won’t save you money up front, rather this is an investment in a piece you’ll wear more than once. If your wedding is more formal, you may want to go full suit over the suspenders route.

We purchased the groom’s suit from Macy’s online. Perfect fit other than the pants need to be hemmed. He is also about 5’7 with a slim build.

Try taking a look at National Tuxedo Rentals. It is online, but they offer at home try ons and have a great selection. They have sales frequently, are VERY user friendly, and offer slim fit tuxes. The way you input you sizing on their site does a really good job at ensuring it fits right.

Pretty reasonable on pricing as well. Full tuxes, shirts, socks, ties, suspenders, shoes, pocket squares and cuff links are going to cost about $160 which is still better than most places around here. We went with them because my FH wanted a plum tux jacket and we were quoted $350 for a custom order around here. If you have more than (I think) other people ordering, yours would be free.
