What do I do with my engagement ring?

meatball, on May 27, 2014 at 7:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I don't want to wear my engagement ring with a wedding band. I have big knuckles and the engagement ring is very uncomfortable. My wedding band will be more minimal. But now what do I do with the engagement ring? I feel bad since my FH spent some $ on it.

Wear it on a matching necklace chain.

My friend switched her engagement ring to her right hand once she got married and wears the band on the left hand. If you don't want to wear it at all, you could wear it on a nice chain as a necklace.

Some women only wear their bands and some wear their engagement rings on a necklace. I would talk to your FH about the ring and see what he says. If he knows it's uncomfortable but would like you to wear it maybe something can be done to fix it or he may want to get something else.

You could wear it on a different hand or finger. Alternatively, you could just wear your engagement ring and not wear a wedding band. It sounds like your engagement ring isn't comfortable anyway.

Have it sized for one. Mine is too small and sometimes irritating. I ordered my wedding band in a size larger and it fits much better. Then you can wear them both. Or wear the engagement ring on the right hand, and your wedding band on your left.

Can you take the diamond from the ring, and turn it into a necklace?

I don't wear my two rings on the same finger.

Why is yours uncomfortable? Could you get it sized?

You could even wear something like this?

I have short, fat fingers, and thankfully have an engagement ring and a wedding ring that have very thin bands so it doesn't take up that whole section of my finger. We also got my wedding band a half size bigger than I usually wear so it would be more comfortable and I'm able to wear both rings on my finger that way. If that's still not an option, I would wear it on my other hand, and then on as a necklace if absolutely necessary.

I have short, fat fingers. I have the hands of a 6 month old baby. LOL. Since I started nursing school, I can't wear my acrylics anymore to make them look longer. We bought my engagement and wedding band as a set because it was easier to find a thing properly fitting band that way. A good jewelry designer can make them fit too. You could also just wear the engagement ring on the right hand.

Since your FH invest in your e-ring, you should wear it. Why can't you wear it on your right hand?

You could ask your FH what his thoughts are on the matter--since we will be living and working on a farm, we agree that it is safer and more practical for me not to wear my engagement ring after we are married. I am enjoying it for now, but will probably wear it only for special occasions once I have a wedding ring.
