What Do i Do?: Suit of Armor

Amari, on April 21, 2018 at 8:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
Hello everyone. I have a pressing matter that I really need help with. My fiancé wants to wear a suit of armor for our wedding, and though I'm still iffy about it, we've compromised. Now the issue is, aside from his choice of attire, what theme do I choose? We're going to a grand ballroom inside of a Memorial Hall the next town over ours. Any suggestions?

Do you mean an actual metal suit? That sounds more like a costume and not the best choice for a wedding.

Fairy tale would be so amazing, especially with the ballroom and if you get a ballgown! You can even narrow it a bit and do a princess in the castle or medieval theme!

Oh man, I feel for you! If it were me, and I had to have a theme (which you kind of do when there’s a suit of armor involved), I’d do like a Spanish Man if La Mancha/Don Quixote type thing.

I guess so. But its what he wants. Id rather him be happy and excited about our wedding, then dreading it. If this makes him happy then I wont deny his choice.

I see prince on a white horse, and princess when you said that about FH. Fairytale would be amazing!

Like maybe a Knights of the Round table thing? Chivalry, courtly love and all that? My FH really wanted to do armor. I think he saw Excalibur one too many times and imagined the wedding in that movie. For a while, he planned on just wearing the shoulder pieces (can't remember what it's called) over his tux. I think he's let go of this idea, but I get you, it wasn't worth fighting him on if he wanted it.

Btw, does he have a suit of armor or plan on renting one? That stuff is pricey!

Has he realised that he is most unlikely to be able to sit down? Suits of armour were generally built to ride a horse in and that’s a very different thing from sitting on a chair. Chain mail as opposed to full-blown armour would be easier though. Also, where is he planning to get this suit of armour from? If he’s not planning on having one made (which would be $$$$$$$$&dollarSmiley winking he’s going to have to find an antique one which fits him, which unless he’s under about five foot eight could be difficult as men were shorter in the times when armour was worn.

I was mainly thinking Spanish food LOL. It’s not a particularly romantic plot...but that’s what a suit of armor makes me think. The Man of La Mancha is a musical based on Don Quixote and one of the songs is “Impossible Dream” so maybe you can sort of do a Spanish/Dream kind of theme. The actual Don Quixote in the book is kind of a crazy guy trying to revive chivalry who imagines himself a knight. I don’t know—kind of reaching. But I’d google it if I were you and see if it is at all interesting. You could pull up subtle bits of the plot in your decor. I’m just personally not a “princess in the castle” kind of person.

I have learned that there are more places than you'd think to buy armor 😅 but it isn't cheap.

If he is wearing armor fairytale or Middle Ages. My question is. IA he use to wearing armor. If not he could have an issue with its weight and heat. I have seen people experienced in wearing itvgho down from both because the did not pay attention to the signs. All day armor is hard.

I’m seriously jealous! I desperately wanted FH and I in medieval garb but he wanted more traditional. I agree fairytale would be a solid theme for it

Wow sounds interesting! I'd love to see pictures of it! My FH jokingly said he was going to wear his Deadmau5 helmet. It was a hard no...

Pic is added for reference. The one we have is similar to this one.
