What do I do about a gift from a random stranger?

Megan, on February 28, 2015 at 4:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I just received a package from BBB. My shower is a week away so I didn't think anything of it until I looked at the invoice. The gift is from someone I don't know who lives in Ohio (I'm in New York.) I asked my MOH and FH if either of them knew who it was from. Nothing. We are all at a loss.

So my question is...do I send it to her so she can return it assuming she ordered off the wrong registry? Or just send her a thank you note lol?

    I would call bbb and see if they could tell you if it was mistakenly sent to you.

    That's so weird, I would definitely call BBB, a salad serving set may be on many people's registries perhaps?

    SCORE, A FREE GIFT! Lol j/k Yeah, Id call BBB and tell them the situation. Have her look up the purchaser and have her call them to see who it was intended for. It could be from one of your parents or FIs friends. PLEASE tell us what the gift is!!

    Ok so I just got off the phone with BBB Customer Service. Apparently the wrong packing slip was included with my gift. I received the right item, just the wrong piece of paper to go with it. It's actually from one of FH's coworkers. The very helpful customer service rep is going to email me the gift tag that should have been included.

    @Mrs. Cheapskate...it is a salad serving set.

    It may be intended for you, and it may be intended for someone else. If it was intended for someone else, that bride will assume she was slighted by a family member when she wasn't. It's isn't an incredibly expensive gift, but it is a gift. If this is a gift intended for you and you don't know this person, they're aware they haven't met you. Therefore, when BBB contacts them with an inquiry, it will not shock them. If it was intended for you, send a gracious thank you note. If not, you should return it to BBB.
