What did you rent vs buying ?

Meghan, on August 12, 2021 at 9:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hey what are items that you rented for your wedding instead of buying? Did you find renting items easier or wish there were items you could have rented instead?

We ended up buying centerpieces instead of renting. It cost a bit more but don’t have to worry about guests taking them and paying a fee.

We bought everything for both our minimony and our upcoming reception!

Most of our decor was rented from our florist - our ceremony arch and linens, our sweetheart table fairy wall, plus all of the vases for centerpieces. A lot of people build their own arches (and then later sell them to other couples) but it was worth it to us to not have more projects and just have everything provided.

Just about everything is being 'rented' from the venue with the exception of our flowers. Our venue is pretty strict that certain items, like linens, real candles, tables/chairs have to go through them. I prefer it this way since its a one stop shop; made planning super easy.

So technically we're renting a portion of our centerpieces, our florist provides all the candles and glass vases for them, so we're renting that. Our venue provides chairs, linens, etc. I'm buying/making all of the ceremony decor which will be repurposed for the cocktail hour space after the ceremony.

We're buying everything for our wedding instead of renting, though we're trying to make a point of it to only purchase items that we can either repurpose as decor in our house (or find some way to otherwise re-use it) after the wedding, or that we can sell to another bride (so not really buying many items with our names/wedding date on them) after the wedding. Our venue provides tables/chairs/tablecloths/etc, so we don't need to worry about buying those.

We actually bought everything. I needed to supply 6 folding banquet tables for my caterer... it was the same price almost to rent them than purchase! Linens were actually $10 cheaper for me to buy and wrinkle shield than rent.

Plus I plan on selling everything afterward, it just made more sense to us.

The only thing I'm renting are plates because I don't wanna use the white ones provided by my venue. Their plates can be used as backup if someone needs a clean plate, but they'll start with a rented ivory/gold plate.

We are renting most everything. We don’t have space to entertain that many people on a regular basis so it doesn’t make sense price wise to purchase items. Because we have to factor in our time/sanity at minimum wage per hour in addition to the “low cost”, the purchased items become more expensive. If we tried to resell anything, reality is no one wants to pay full price for used stuff.

Hi ! In my venue, everything was purchased, so I didn't really have to buy or rent... Our florist was renting the vases in the price of centrepieces, so no worries. We rented some chair covers and I bought the ribbons for it. And other stuff that I bought, I selled them after the wedding (dress, shoes, bag, ribbons, table numbers....).

We are renting most of the decor, chairs and photo booth. My month / day of planner is also my florist and decor rental company so it was easier for me to get everything in one place and have them set it up, break it down and stay throughout the entire reception
