I know my minister was saying there’s a bunch of things you can do for your ceremony. Like broom stick jumping each having a different color of sand and filling a jar and things like that! I was wondering what you guys did just to get an idea for my ceremony! Meeting with my minister on the 16th so...

"Jumping the broom" is an African American tradition. Originates from slaves not being allowed to marry so we'd just jump a broom instead of a ring exchange. I don't think you will but that would be cultural appropriation unless you are african descent.

No i wasn't going to choose that because I knew that it was a culture background ceremony tradition. I just figured Id give an example of things I've witnessed because i could only think of that and the sand. I was hoping there would be other ideas given! :] Which i think im gonna go with my original gut want which was the sand combination!

I still need to figure out the How, but we are planning on doing a whiskey ceremony. Just need to read the logistics, but we’d enjoy some of our wedding whiskey on anniversaries. (It depends on the size of the cask if it’s going to be yearly, or for big anniversaries, maybe 1, 5, 10, 15 etc.
We’re both whiskey drinkers so it would be nice.

    Traditions I'm including are:

    1. We're replacing the traditional religious vows with the Celtic ones that go like this:

You cannot possess me for I belong to myself. But while we both wish it, I give you that which is mine to give. I vow you the first cut of my meat, the first sip of my wine. You cannot command me, for I am a free person. But from this day it shall be only your name I cry out in the night and into your eye that I smile each morning. I shall be a shield for your back as you are for mine. I shall serve you in those ways you require, and the honeycomb will taste sweeter coming from my hand. I shall respect you as I respect myself. Our love is never ending and we will remain, forevermore, equals in our marriage. Above and beyond all this, I will cherish and honor you through this life into the next. By the life that courses within my blood and the love that resides within mt heart. I take the to my hand, my heart, and my spirit, to be my chosen one. My soulmate, I give my heart to you.

    2. We're burying the bourbon at our venue. It's an old southern tradition that's meant to prevent rain on our wedding day. A month before the ceremony, you bury a bottle of bourbon upside down at the venue and dig it up the morning of your ceremony. You each drink a bit of it for a long lasting marriage!

    3. We're tying the knot. A sailor's knot that only gets tighter the more pressure is put on it. We're both Navy, so we thought this was appropriate.

    4. We're considering doing a ring warming, but it will depend on the final guest count. You pass around the wedding bands so the warmth of your guests are in the metal.

    5. At the rehearsal dinner we're doing a cake pull. You have your cake baker place charms on strings into the cake and have the bridal party each pull one. The charms are things like a baby carriage or a ring or a money bag. It's supposed to tell the future of the girls in the next year.

    Hope that helps!

We are not doing any of those things. for me i feel if you wish to do something like that then go for it and look into why it is being done and if it means anything to you.

We did handfasting to honor my husband's Irish heritage. It was a great addition to the ceremony.

The meaning of a sandy ceremony doesn’t have anything to do with beach themes honestly.
The Meaning of the Unity Sand Ceremony. The flowing sand and blending of the colors in the Unity Sand Ceremony symbolize the bringing together of two lives into one. The two sands symbolize everything that the bride and groom have been or will become in the future.

And it can also connect to a passage in the Bible for people who have a more religious aspect to their wedding! Smiley smile it’s why I wanted to do it! We are just gonna do our wedding colors.
