this may be a silly question, but does it matter the order in which i acquire certain vendors? as in, i'm still up in the air on a venue (and obviously date may change depending on venue and such, although we're pretty set on 5/22/20!), but i'm incredibly interested in a specific photographer and...

This may be a silly question, but does it matter the order in which i acquire certain vendors? as in, i'm still up in the air on a venue (and obviously date may change depending on venue and such, although we're pretty set on 5/22/20!), but i'm incredibly interested in a specific photographer and want to hash out details and get set with them ASAP. is it weird to contact them and get that done before i even have a venue, or is that normal?

Um, NO.
You absolutely cannot book any other vendors until you have your venue contract signed and your deposit is paid. I don't even think you'd find a photographer, DJ, whatever that would book you without having a venue first. If you don't have a venue, you don't have a date. You can't book people without a date. It's great that you want to get married on 5/22/20, but that doesn't guarantee that you will be. If you book a photographer for that date, and then can't find a venue, you're screwed if that photographer isn't available on the new date, or won't change it because his contract says he doesn't have to.

Venue First. Trust me, I felt the same way about wanting things done but I knew my date wouldn't feel "for real" until I had that venue booked. Once the venue was booked, I could breathe easier knowing my date was my date and I moved on to other vendors from there. Focusing on photographer and caterer for now!
