What color should the MOB and MOG wear?

Mrs_J, on June 20, 2017 at 12:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Happy Tuesday! So my color scheme is navy blue/Marsala/gold/hint of blush. My BMs dress will be Marsala and the GMs will be in navy blue. What color should the mothers wear? I was talking to FSIL this weekend and she stated the MOB usually wears her own color and the MOG matches the BMs. I never thought about the proper etiquette of their attire so I'm a little confused. Does this really matter? If so what did you do or what are you planning to do?

They don't need to match--they can do whatever they want.

Whatever they want. I have never heard of any etiquette for this.

    They wear whatever they want.

My colors were navy and rose gold. My mother chose to wear a navy gown because she fell in love with it. My MIL wore a gold cocktail dress.

Whatever they want, I didn't want them to match the BP because I wanted them to stand out on their own. So my mom, aunt and grandmother are wearing a shade of blue and my FMIL is wearing black. My BM's are wearing purple and my MOH is wearing a full sequenced bronze dress. GM are wearing black on black and FH is going to have the colored vest, tie, etc.

Whatever they want! That said, I asked them to NOT match the bridal party so they would stand out.

If they ask you for some color direction, feel free to give them some suggestions.

They should blend in. Please DO NOT have shop at the "Mother of The Bride" Department. Those clothes look like what Queen Elizabeth wears!

My colors are the same as yours, minus the navy, and I asked them to wear a dark champagne color. One dress ended up being more of a light mocha color, but I'm not real picky.

Yes I was thinking about a champagne color for the mothers as well! @Karie

I agree with you all, I want their looks to be special. That's why I was like "huh" when my FSIL was saying they should match.

I wouldn't intentionally try to match the BP (though if it happens, it happens). Our colors are ivory, champagne, gold, and eggplant. My mother is wearing gray and my FMIL is wearing black because that's what she's most comfortable in.

My mom matches my BM because that's what she wanted (and I like it that way actually). I gave MOG complementary color ideas and she chose navy (colors are wine, blush, gold). FH and his dad are both wearing navy. But if they all want to wear navy no sweat off my back.

In summary, I don't think it's wrong to give them direction, or ideas, but ultimately they should have the say.

I plan to wear a color that looks good next to my H and compliments but doesn't match the BP.

I asked that no one match the BP color (Marsala). I gave them a few suggestions, but it was ultimately up to them.

    ETA: Exactly what PP said.

I also do not want MOB or MOG to wear the same color as my bridesmaids because marsala is a hard color to match from different stores and I'm picky about all the marsala accents matching!

Our moms are wearing colors they feel their best in, and neither happens to match our colors (burgundy with blush & gold accents).

MOB is wearing champagne/brown and MOG is wearing forest green.

I have a feeling we'll look like Christmas Smiley tongue

MOB is wearing royal blue, MOG is wearing black. My colors are ivory/black/neutrals/mixed metallics. I don't care what the moms wear, beyond that they feel comfortable, beautiful, and confident.

They can wear whatever color they like and feel good in. I told my mom & FMIL they ca. Wear what they like but please do not match BM, wear white, ivory or champagne. They agreed & will speak to each other because they dont want to wear the same color.
