What color should my bridesmaid wear if I'm wearing a black dress?

Melissa, on May 4, 2020 at 3:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Originally I was going to ask that she also wear black since we're doing a soft gothic romantic elopement on 10/30, and I kind of wanted everyone in black, but I'd like to give her other options that will still go with the vibe. She's the type that would want to make sure I stand out (super sweet, she's great!) but in my mind I'll have a bouquet and veil so I'm not worried about anyone's clothes competing with mine if that makes sense?

Anyway, the only color I can think of is red, to go with the roses in my bouquet, and my FH's preferred waistcoat color. But that may have the opposite effect of making me "stand out" since it's so bright, and parents and FH also asked to wear black (since they all wear black to everything).

She can do a deep violet/purple! Or emerald. These colors look really great (in my opinion) in velvet.

I too agree with very dark purple or a burgundy.

Luckily black pretty much goes with everything! If you don’t want her to stand out too much but like the red idea, I’d try a darker, less vibrant red. Otherwise an emerald or pine green color could look nice, she could do a gray which would look really nice and also stick with the gothic romantic theme. The only color I’d suggest NOT doing is navy blue because dark blue and black tend to not match well together.

I'm doing a Gothic theme also, I'm having my bridesmaids wear dark midnight or navy blue, and my mom a dark forest green. All colors they wear normally so we know that it matches their skin-tone. I was originally going to have them in burgundy or maroon. Both looked great but had to change it as my FH family is Chinese. Red is the brides color for them and they are going to have enough of a couture shock with the Gothic theme. Waiting on how the groomsmen will look until my FH picks his suit in a few months as I don't want to rush him.

Maybe even some kind of dark grey could work?

I’d say still do a black dress but maybe with red accents to match the bouquet or some other complimentary color. How about something like these?
